I will praise you from here to eternity

I was reading Psalm 63 today.  Because God’s kindness is better than life, my lips will praise him.  What a great lesson for us all.  Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in life and forget to praise God, yet thinking of all the things he has done for me there is no way I should ever forget the importance of praise.

I wrote my version of the Psalm below:

Yes, you are my God and that brings praise to my lips, I worship you with songs and poems, with prayers of devotion, there is an ache in my heart, a place reserved for you to fill and I long for you, without you it’s like I am in a scorching desert devoid of water, scanning the horizon for an oasis until I see a stream of living water reflecting your power and your glory seen only in that place of sanctuary, your love means more than life to me and I praise you relentlessly, I will praise you from here to eternity, singing joyfully as one excitedly awaiting their invitation to the banqueting table, I am unable to sleep without thinking of you, in the silence of the night I speak to you, reflecting on your sheltering arms, knowing that I’m safe from harm as I sing happy songs of adoration, I lay my foundations close to you, knowing that it’s you who supports me, you are my tower of strength, shielding me from those who would seek to drown out my praise, to stop me from making a noise for you Lord, you lift up your sword and protect me from evil, because of your love I celebrate, one of your faithful followers, one of the Lord’s own warriors, protected from lies and deceit, reprieved because of my beliefs.

I can’t explain it you have to experience it

Went to a different church today to hear some students from Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry speak.  The main talk was about revival and how that starts from the Holy Spirit within us.  It doesn’t have to be all singing and all dancing revival as we read about, it can just be one word, one touch of someone else’s heart.  We are called to love and revival will start I am sure when we can truly start to show God’s love to all that we meet.

Before I went I had been writing about God’s love and how I can’t explain it, you have to experience it for yourself.  And now I’m thinking WOW, that just starts with me.  If I can show someone else a touch of God’s heart then I could be starting a revival… now that’s powerful.

God is Love, I can’t explain it you have to experience it, talk to him, he wants to tell you how much he loves you, it’s not dependent on your love for him, you don’t actually have to believe in him for him to love you, he is stronger than all your fears, he is not put off by your tears or sadness, when you’re angry he doesn’t hide away, when you’re having a bad day he stays with you, his love is so extravagant, inexplicable, he loved you before you were you, his love is all consuming, waves of passion from his very heart are pouring over you, this isn’t a frail, human love, no interdependency, no need to say I love you too, he never fails you, never lets you down, never shouts or swears or knocks you around, his love is strong enough to break the chains that hold you down, it’s a selfless love, sacrificial, unconditional, a perfect love that casts out all fear, surrender to the voice that tells you it’s all going to be OK, listen to the voice that tells you he loves you in every way and maybe one day you too will be able to say, hey God I love you too

Picture his smile, his joy, his delight

Thinking about worship and different forms of worship today and this verse in Isaiah struck me as quite poignant.

Isaiah 43:20-21 – I cause streams to flow in the dry and empty land for my chosen ones. I do it for the people I made for myself. I want them to sing praise to me.

I don’t believe God only provides streams of living water so that we will praise him, but I do believe in providing those streams he does have an expectation of thanks and praise.  It’s like the Lepers in the New Testament who were healed but only one returned to thank and praise Jesus.  We expect so much of God, we ask so much, yet do we thank him and praise him enough.  Matt Redman puts it so beautifully “every blessing you pour out, I’ll turn back to praise”.

Today I want to make a day of praise and worship, may all that I do be done to glorify God, whether that’s me driving the car, cleaning my house, praying, cooking, or spending time in God’s presence I will use my life to worship him.

Listening for our praise, delighting in our worship, sit and be still, know him, know that he is God, rest in his presence a while, picture his smile, his joy, his delight as he hears the words from your mouth, as he sees the meditation of your heart, as you set apart time to worship and praise him, the streams of abundance flow right from him, blessings poured out on to his favoured children, a double portion for those who seek to obey him, praise him all creatures great and small, stand tall and worship even in pain and sorrow don’t put it off til tomorrow, praise and thanks will ever be on my lips, worship, my lifestyle, my default, my choice, I choose to lift my voice, to use the gifts bestowed upon me to worship you completely God, may all that I do be pleasing to you may all that I do be done for you.

Shatter the ceiling with your praise

Praise God for his never-ending love,  Praise God that he forgives us, loves us and praise God that he chose us.

Psalm 100 – Shout to the Lord with joy, everyone on earth. Worship the Lord with gladness. Come to him with songs of joy. I want you to realize that the Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him. We are his people.  We are the sheep belonging to his flock. Give thanks as you enter the gates of his temple. Give praise as you enter its courtyards. Give thanks to him and praise his name. The Lord is good. His faithful love continues forever. It will last for all time to come.

Psalm 100

Shout it out, express your feelings, shatter the ceiling with your praise, raise the roof as you tell of God’s truth, everyone on earth will be excited once they realise this perfect truth, the Lord is God, he made us, we belong to him, created in his image we let him finish what he started, we will never be parted from his company, get down on your knees and give thanks as you enter the gates of his temple, give praise as you enter his courts, give thanks in all circumstances, praise with song and dance, the Lord is good, his love goes on forever and ever, eternal blessings, eternal joy, sing and rejoice, shout to the Lord.

No hiding in a corner because I am proud of God

I found this passage from Hebrews really inspirational this morning.

Hebrews 10: 22-25 – So let us come near to God with an honest and true heart. Let us come near with a faith that is sure and strong. Our hearts have been sprinkled. Our minds have been cleansed from a sense of guilt. Our bodies have been washed with pure water. Let us hold firmly to the hope we claim to have. The One who promised is faithful. Let us consider how we can stir up one another to love. Let us help one another to do good works. Let us not give up meeting together. Some are in the habit of doing this. Instead, let us cheer each other up with words of hope. Let us do it all the more as you see the day coming when Christ will return.

This passage was explained in my bible study using the following four points:

  1. We must not hold back from entering confidently into God’s presence because Jesus has opened up the way for us.
  2. We must be faithful in standing up publicly as Christians, because the Lord is faithful to us.
  3. We are not in this alone, so we must encourage one another to love and act as we should
  4. Because we are in this together, and because our future is assured, we must not give up meeting together, but go on encouraging each other

No holding back, enter his courts with confidence, his gates with boldness, Jesus already opened the door for us, no apology for a Saviour who spilled his blood out of love, no hiding in a corner because I am proud of God and I will not be pushed down, persecuted, oppressed because the best is yet to come, we are not alone we are members of a giant family with God as our Daddy, so encourage your sisters and brothers, encourage one another to love in all circumstances, take chances to act as we should, doing good in every situation, taking God’s message to all of the nations, enabling others to hear of salvation that Jesus purchased at the cross, and don’t get lost along the way, don’t let other things get in your way, meet with your family every day, raise them up, encourage and bless, helping them when they get in a mess, praying, praising and worshipping God with honesty love and a truthful heart.

I’m undeserving but that doesn’t unnerve him

Do we need any excuse to praise God, I don’t think so!!  When I think of all God has done for me my heart is filled with love, gratitude, praise and worship for my amazing God.

Psalm 100: 1-2 – Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs

Philippians 4:4 – Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice!

 Who Am I?

You wanna know why I shout for joy, sing songs of praise and punch the air, why I can’t contain my love for God, it’s not hard it’s simply that God loves me, before I knew Jesus I was nothing, then I met him, he is everything and he calls me “friend”, the creator of the universe knows my name and loves me more that I will ever comprehend, and now I am something, OK so I’m undeserving but that doesn’t unnerve him, Jesus gave everything for me, he delights in me, and I celebrate his love, jump for joy when I think of all he’s done for me, I rejoice in the Lord who’s brought me this far, he made me, I am his and because of this all that is within me is filled with joy, I am loved, singing a new song direct from my heart, I praise and proclaim the name of Jesus, I laugh without fear of the future for I am a child of God, blessed, redeemed, adored and esteemed by an awesome Father, I am stronger through his love, my future secured, who am I? I am God’s

I have seen a glimpse of what permanent residence in heaven will be like

Exodus 33:8-11 –  And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshipped, each at the entrance to their tent.  The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young assistant Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.

What an awesome image this conjures up, as Moses approaches God and speaks with him “face to face” to have an intimate time of conversation with God, all the people standing in praise and worship, one nation united.  It got me to thinking about two things really.

  1. How awesome to have an intimate relationship with God and that’s really what Jesus bought for us through his death on the Cross, curtain torn in two, we can now approach our God with boldness and confidence
  2. How important solidarity is in prayer, how we can and should support each other in prayer, how we can pray for each other’s prayer lives, worshipping God, thanking God for each other, interceding for each other and generally rejoicing in prayer and praise together not always on our own.

Worship and praise, I want to be closer to you, declare your name, to love what you love, to hate what you hate, I want to come before you with songs of adoration, speak words of devotion and exaltation, to have a conversation face to face, speaking intimately with my Saviour, become familiar as with a friend, to gain a deep revelation of the meaning of your words, to converse and if I only see a limited reflection of your glory, your majesty and splendour through spending time in your presence, I will have seen a glimpse of what permanent residence in heaven will be like, the treasures of our Holy God, the promises of your word fulfilled, our burdens lifted, hearts healed, I lift up my voice singing Hallelujah, Lion of Judah, glorious Lord, wonderful Saviour, praise surrounds us as we approach the throne in boldness and confidence, all glory to our God bringing heaven and earth together, on earth as it is in heaven oh God may I spend time in your presence grasping the essence of your glory, may I be worthy to bless your name, I thank you for the grace that allows me to stand before you, to claim your free gift of mercy and grace, to meet you in heaven and know your embrace.
