Satan’s arrows are focused on you

I read the following quote today:

The price of gullibility is the adulteration of the gospel for which Christ gave his life.

So this is a topic I have blogged about before and is close to my heart.  How long before we see through those who are false teachers and false prophets, those who are adulterating the word of God and twisting it to suit their cause?  The enemy is using people from within our own churches and our own communities to help his cause and we, as servants of the Living God must be active in countering the work of the enemy to protect ourselves, our church members and to stand firm with our Christian brothers and sisters to teach God’s word to all. And when I say God’s word I mean his word as it was written and ordained not as man translates it in this modern world to suit our modern lifestyles and sin.

  • Romans 16:18 – For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naïve people.
  • Colossians 2:8 – See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
  • Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
  • Isaiah 40:8 – The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures for ever.

TARGETED

Satan’s target is your mind, his weapon is lies, his purpose to lead you away from God’s will, but you have a weapon and that is the unadulterated word of God, do not follow the ways of man, majority rule does not mean the majority are right, the bright lights may be attractive but the fact is the way to heaven is narrow, Satan’s arrows are focused on you, he sends wolves in sheep’s clothing to entice you but here’s some advice to adhere to, divisive people are self-serving and use their word and speech to influence others, they seek to smother your thoughts and beliefs with lies and deceit, Satan’s greatest weapon is our ignorance, neutralising the gospel through addition, subtraction or substitution, he tries to detour our destiny, carefully chipping away at the truth, fragile man who so often is gullible  believing anything so long as it’s not in the Bible, to be a good disciple you need to know the truth to discern a lie, God cries out for you to return to the gospel that demands our all, he calls us to righteousness, repentance and change, exchanging ignorance for wisdom, receiving the keys to God’s eternal Kingdom, draw closer to the flawless word of God that endures forever, spend time with God reading his word, guard that time jealously removed from all influence of human flattery, let no word of the enemy take us captive we must keep proactive in our walk with Jesus and no word or deed will ever deceive us.

Emit the brightness that’s within as you run into battle

I was reading a really interesting article yesterday about how we cope when under attack from the enemy.  Remembering that the enemy attacks when he is worried about our work for God or even our potential to work for God it is a compliment in many ways when we are attacked because Satan can see the progress we are making for God.  However it is important that we work with God to counter these attacks and to remain strong, only through being grounded in God’s truth and through receiving the help of the Spirit can we overcome, and believe me we will overcome because our God has already won the battle, the enemy is defeated.

John 16:13-15 – But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.  All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.’

John 6:39-40 –  And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

I took the inspiration for the following from the article I was reading:

PROTECT YOURSELF

Protect yourself with me, keep so close to my word that when darkness comes the light penetrates the darkness and you remember me, bind the truth to your heart, my word always on your tongue and when attacks come remember that I am bigger, my plans are better, and the battle is mine, never forget that I have already won, the battle done long ago and even though you walk through this time of trial I walk beside you every dark and arduous mile, you may not see me but I am there, follow my truth, my word, keep it in front of you at all times, protect yourself with me for the battle is not against humanity but against the rulers of the dark world, shroud yourself in my righteousness, emit the brightness that’s within as you run into battle, run as fast as your feet can carry you, building on my name, sharing my love, telling my story and sharing my glory, run and fight, do not be afraid, let your shield be faith as you stand behind the God of the universe, no need to fear or be afraid, fight the fight of a brave warrior, a soldier of the living God, fight for a cause that’s worth your sacrifice for your life here is but fleeting, fight for me, look to me, know I am with you, surrounding you, living in you, fight bravely for I your God am with you, the truth surrounds you, my love protects you, my word instructs you, speak of what you hear from me, receive what I make known, own my love, own my story, march with passion to claim my Glory.

The devil is not afraid of your empty words

I have found it quite surprising in my walk that there are many Christians who don’t know God’s word in any depth and who rarely pick up their Bibles to even seek God’s word.  In my particular case I suppose I have come across this most in the context of what the word has to say about homosexuality but really we need to be absorbed in God’s word to distinguish good and sound teaching and doctrine from poor and false teaching and doctrine in all areas of our lives and our walk with God.  God is a great and loving Father, he even left us “a manual”, the Bible so we should use it daily to grow in our walk, our understanding and ultimately our witness.

  • Hebrews 5:11-14 – Warning against falling away – We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

So here’s the thing we need to constantly feed on the word, reading our bibles and practice what it says in order to grow into mature Christians who are able to clearly distinguish between sound and unsound doctrine

  • Deuteronomy 11:18 – Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

HE DOES NOT TREMBLE

The devil is not afraid of your empty words, he does not tremble when he sees you coming empty handed, empty headed, no word of God to pull upon for any situation, the enemy knows God’s word can hurt him, God’s word is a powerful weapon, our sword of the spirit so now’s the time to get with it, absorb yourself in it, fix God’s words on your heart and mind, tie his words as symbols on your hands, bind them on your foreheads, let it never be said that the enemy got the better of you in any situation because of your lack of dedication to learning from God, his word was written for you, for your instruction, for encouragement and endurance, it’s your frame of reference for your Christian walk, and if it’s not clear to you from the Bible, just ask God, he will not rebuke you for asking, his word is alive and powerful, a weapon of mass destruction that Satan wants us to ignore, don’t give him that satisfaction anymore, soak up God’s word, immerse yourself in his teachings, God is reaching out, he gives you all the tools, the armour of God and it’s not so hard for us to spend time learning from the Master, pick up your Bible, enjoy God’s word and you’ll receive all the answers you require to finally set your faith on fire.

I fight with my hand fused to the sword

I read an interesting message from Lisa Bevere today where she revealed God’s message to her that “far too many Christians wield only pieces and fragments of His Word—no longer lifting God’s Word as a whole” and she equated this to warriors lifting broken swords in battle.

I found that a great illustration of the importance of immersing myself in God’s word and also the danger of quoting snippets of the word out of context.  To know the word is surely to know God, to walk with him and to be fully equipped to do his work and fight the spiritual battle against the enemy.

  • Hebrews 4:12 -For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
  • Colossians 1:28 – He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ
  • 1 Timothy 6:12 – Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses
  • 2 Samuel 7:3 – Nathan replied to the king, ‘Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you
  • Jeremiah 6:16 – Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

 I FIGHT

I fight with my hand fused to the sword, I fight with God’s complete word, I learn, I grow, I yearn to know God’s very will.

I am still, I read his word, I learn and as I stand at each and every crossroads I look and ask, I proclaim God’s word over my life, over every choice, I seek and I find.

God fills my mind with wisdom, as I proclaim his name he makes the way clear for me, picking up my sword I am ready to fight, living in joy, actively following the right road, absorbing his every word, I find rest for my soul.

This is my word

Gave my testimony to 120 women today, was not as nervous as I thought and was truly blessed by the response I got, God is certainly using my story and to him be the total glory for saving me from my sin.  Part of my testimony revolves around my belief that God called me out of the gay lifestyle and that I believe this is both biblical and God’s will for my Iife. I was chatting to some ladies about this and how I truly believed in the Old Testament and New Testament references to homosexuality/sexual immorality and when I got back to my seat I just felt God giving me this reference.

Proverbs 7: 2-3 – Guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.  Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

To me it was like a massive endorsement of my testimony, that I was listening to his word and obeying him, praise God.

THE WORD

This is my word and my word is the truth, guard it closely, hold it close to your heart, demonstrate your faith by believing the truth that comes from my teachings, treat each word with care and love, don’t be deceived by the enemy, false teachers and preachers, don’t try and twist it to suit your desires, allow my fire to burn in your soul so that you may be whole, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you, I love you, you are the apple of my eye and I want you to desire to draw close to me, to take everything I have to give, to live a full and fruitful life, to make sacrifices as required, desire to know me more, to receive all I have in store for you, hold my word close to your heart and you and I will never be apart.

Every word of God is flawless

Been thinking more about God calling me out from the gay lifestyle and how I can maybe reach others with his message of love and hope.  At first I thought maybe the message he had for me to give was for other gay people but I feel that he wants to talk to his children, his church and for us to search for answers in his word, to use the Bible as the basis for truth and to teach that lovingly and openly, to be strong advocates for God’s biblical teachings so that we can shine as a light in every community and bring others to salvation through our words, our witness and our honesty.

I know there is a big divide among the church community and also the Gay community on what the Bible says about homosexuality.  I hear the arguments particularly those who say that only the Old Testament refers to homosexuality as a sin and it is taken out of context (e.g. refers to exploitation, child sex abuse etc.)  However, what about what the New Testament says?  How can you take these scriptures out of context, specifically Romans and Corinthians which to me are abundantly clear?

  • Romans 1:26–27 – Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:9–10 – Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
  • 1 Timothy 1:9-10 – We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practising homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers – and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine
  • Jude 1:7 – In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

I believe strongly also in Timothy’s message (2 Timothy 4: 3-4)

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather round them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

What is amazing is that God will forgive us all our sins when we recognise that we are sinners, as Christians we are called to hold others to account and to lovingly support and guide each other so don’t just tell people what they want to hear, don’t try and be politically correct, don’t allow people to falter or stumble but through truth and love help them to come to know God fully and recognise his calling on their life

Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

THE TRUTH

OK so when you read the Bible are you one of those who’s liable to skip parts that maybe don’t sit quite right?  Maybe it frightens you a bit to admit that some of the things you thought were OK (like being gay?) maybe are not.  Perhaps you’ve never stopped to think what impact your interpretation may have on your relationship with other believers. Does it scare you that the Prince of deceivers may muddle your mind so you find that your ears switch off to the truth and you seek to soothe others with comforting words that hurtle them towards a life without Jesus?  Cos here’s the thing Jesus died to free us and in order to free us we must have faith and in our faith we must allow God to take centre place, and every word of God is flawless, we can’t live in a lawless society, we must take responsibility, follow God’s teachings, ensure our preaching is sound, grounded in his word, if we are to minister to those who are struggling, those who are reaching for redemption, we need to strengthen our knowledge of the Bible, stop skipping the bits that we think are not viable in this modern era where we seem not to fear the Lord as we should, study and pray so that we may understand God’s meaning and leaning not on our own understanding be upstanding in our conviction that God’s word is definitive, clear cut, no ifs, no buts, don’t shut your mind, ensure you’re well primed to use God’s word to support and affirm, to declare and proclaim the power of Jesus name and to bring to faith those who live in shame, let’s not be to blame for letting them fail, don’t be responsible for that first nail in their coffin, lovingly show them that Jesus seeks them to believe in him, repent of their sin cos in my experience there is nothing more confusing than Christians musing over the rights or wrongs of my calling, causing me to question my understanding and that is so demanding for a new Christian, it was hard when people didn’t listen, praise God he gave me a strong conviction to follow his path to salvation, so have compassion, love and understanding and above all be demanding of yourself, don’t sit on the fence for fear of causing offence.
