Wisdom cries out, understanding raises her voice

I have been reading about walking in the light today and this led me to thinking about walking in wisdom.  If I ask God for his wisdom and help that then enables me to be much better at walking in the light, allowing God to highlight those areas of my life that need work and those where I am heading in the right direction.  As there is no darkness whatsoever in God his light helps me to become a better Christian as he highlights those areas that need work.

1 John 1:5 – Here is the message we have heard from him and announce to you. God is light. There is no darkness in him at all.

I have based this poem on Proverbs 8

Wisdom cries out, understanding raises her voice, I rejoice, the paths cross and she takes her stand, I understand that this is where I make my choice, be watchful turning away from the simplicity of humanity, rejecting the old foolish ways, listening for trustworthy things that God says, I open my mouth knowing that I will speak what’s right, the light of God shines through my thoughts, my actions and my words, I detest wickedness, my words are blessed, upright to those who share in the knowledge for those no longer in bondage for those who see that God’s instruction is more precious than silver, his knowledge more prized than gold, his wisdom more treasured than rubies, that no desire of the human heart can compare, for those who use these gifts lift themselves above evil, above arrogance and pride, they have the insight to flee from evil behaviour and perverse speech, decreeing that they have power and wisdom to fight for this Kingdom, for those who love as they are loved, seek so that they find the riches and honour bestowed on them by God, the God who formed me long ago, gave birth to me, all my days destined for me, constantly watching over me, filled with delight day by day I rejoice then listen as he says, blessed are those who keep my ways, who listen and are wise, who do not disregard my word but watch daily at the door, for you have found me and you have found life, received favour from the Lord, beneficiary of the ultimate sacrifice.

They think you are made up, a made up God

Sometimes it’s hard to vocalise to non-Christians how great God is or how much he means to me.  Often I don’t say what I really feel, not sure why but I know that if I ask God he will give me the words.  Sometimes I think I hold back because I have been shot down in the past.  I suppose when I first became a Christian I wasn’t as confident in my faith or the Word and would say things which I couldn’t really backup (just shows how important it is to know the Word!)  But I also know there have been times when I have been desperate for the other person to get what I am saying but I see now that’s Gods role not mine.  So God will give the words and they may well not be what I expect but I can trust that they will be the right words for that moment in time.

  • Isaiah 51:16 – I will give you the words I want you to say. I will cover you with my hands and protect you. I made the heavens and the earth, and I say to Jerusalem, ‘You are my people.'”
  • Luke 12:12 – or the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”
  • Luke 21:15 – For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict

God you are awesome, just wanted to say that.  God you know what, some people just don’t get you, they don’t see how great you are, like some don’t even think you are, they think you are made up, a made up God, now that must be hard, people denying your existence, taking the path of least resistance, keeping a healthy distance from anything remotely Christian because of all this suspicion, OK so why be suspicious of those who believe in Jesus, just ask us, ask us what it is that makes us so in love with the Son of God, but what I find even harder is those who believe but perceive that they’re going to heaven because they say yes Jesus is risen but I don’t need to change my position, so I’ll carry on sinning, like isn’t that just the perfect win/win, it’s not like that, sin is sin, and OK so I’ll always be a sinner, but it’s about the inner me, what I am striving to be, how I’m sorry for what I do, how I try to turn it over to you and put it right, to walk my life in the light and OK so sometimes I fail to come up with the goods, sometimes my mood is not what it should be and I won’t be perfect until I reach Glory but you know I sure want to be trying and sometimes we’re called to deny ourselves and pick up our Cross and I can’t gloss over the fact sometimes it’s scary but think of Mary, we are called to obedience and the rewards are immediate and yet everlasting too, so Father I come to you and ask for your help, you know how hard it is to speak to those whose ears are closed and their hearts are like stone, but I really need to know how can I make you known to them, how can I talk of your amazing love, the friendship that we have without them making out I’m mad, without them saying that’s OK for you but God didn’t mean that for me or God’s not real and really I’m OK so long as you don’t talk all day about your Father up in heaven, I’m not messing God, it’s hard, it’s hard to know the right words, but I have learnt that you are the ultimate redeemer who longs for all your children to experience freedom, so let me walk the walk for you, and trust the talking part will come from you.

Just pray before you overthink

Before I went to my prayer group last night I was praying about it and felt God put Ephesians 4 on my mind.  As we talked it became clear that this chapter was really talking to the situations we wanted to pray about.  It’s a great chapter with so many messages in it, I’ve used it as the basis for my writing today.

I urge you to walk in a manner worthy of your calling, walking with God can never be boring, walking in holiness means ditching your brokenness, shedding your old self like a snake sheds it’s skin, no longer letting Satan in to corrupt and deceive, not leaving him a foothold but giving God total control, everything you want is on the other side of fear and it’s so, so near, don’t be influenced when people try to trick you with lies, myths and distortions so clever they sound like the truth, you need to move on from the times of your youth, no longer like a child tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching, but reaching out to the only true God, there’s only one way to heaven, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, one Father of all,  just change your attitude, renew your mind, I think you’ll find that only dead fish go with the flow, so now’s your chance to put on your new self, don’t get left on the shelf, be humble, be gentle, be loving, be kind, one thing’s for sure you will never regret being kind, forgive them even if they’re not sorry, why worry, don’t be in such a hurry to condemn, in your anger do not sin, get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, don’t use harsh words or resort to old behaviours, let everything you say be good and helpful, be respectful, be instrumental in encouraging others, don’t let anyone steal your joy or destroy your dreams, remember you may have limitations but we serve the ruler of all nations who has none, he understands when we’re on the brink, just pray before you overthink, hand it to the Lord in prayer, let’s face it he knows how many hairs are on your head, of course he knows our fears and dreads, without a doubt he understands so put it all into God’s hands.

The devil is not afraid of your empty words

I have found it quite surprising in my walk that there are many Christians who don’t know God’s word in any depth and who rarely pick up their Bibles to even seek God’s word.  In my particular case I suppose I have come across this most in the context of what the word has to say about homosexuality but really we need to be absorbed in God’s word to distinguish good and sound teaching and doctrine from poor and false teaching and doctrine in all areas of our lives and our walk with God.  God is a great and loving Father, he even left us “a manual”, the Bible so we should use it daily to grow in our walk, our understanding and ultimately our witness.

  • Hebrews 5:11-14 – Warning against falling away – We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

So here’s the thing we need to constantly feed on the word, reading our bibles and practice what it says in order to grow into mature Christians who are able to clearly distinguish between sound and unsound doctrine

  • Deuteronomy 11:18 – Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

The devil is not afraid of your empty words, he does not tremble when he sees you coming empty handed, empty headed, no word of God to pull upon for any situation, the enemy knows God’s word can hurt him, God’s word is a powerful weapon, our sword of the spirit so now’s the time to get with it, absorb yourself in it, fix God’s words on your heart and mind, tie his words as symbols on your hands, bind them on your foreheads, let it never be said that the enemy got the better of you in any situation because of your lack of dedication to learning from God, his word was written for you, for your instruction, for encouragement and endurance, it’s your frame of reference for your Christian walk, and if it’s not clear to you from the Bible, just ask God, he will not rebuke you for asking, his word is alive and powerful, a weapon of mass destruction that Satan wants us to ignore, don’t give him that satisfaction anymore, soak up God’s word, immerse yourself in his teachings, God is reaching out, he gives you all the tools, the armour of God and it’s not so hard for us to spend time learning from the Master, pick up your Bible, enjoy God’s word and you’ll receive all the answers you require to finally set your faith on fire.

We are a people of God’s presence walking in his power

Been reading about God’s power and how as Christians we can walk in God’s power and that means we can make such a difference to the world we live in.  However I suppose a frustration is that sometimes things don’t happen immediately.  So I am reading of a ministry where people are healed instantly, major healing and then when I pray for healing for others it is slow, there are not immediate or recognisable results and that can be difficult to understand.  But then I was reading of Moses and his people in the wilderness and let’s face it they don’t get straight to the end goal, they had 40 years in the wilderness learning, growing, recognising where God was and getting right with him. I suppose the message I got was that sometimes the deeper in the desert you go the more deeply you encountered God and the goal must always be God himself, not miracles and wonders, but knowing God deeply, learning to hear his voice and then to do his will and that’s when the miracles and wonders are going to happen.

  • Exodus 33:13 – If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favour with you. Remember that this nation is your people.
  • Exodus 33:17 – And the Lord said to Moses, ‘I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name
  • Exodus 34:10 – Then the Lord said: ‘I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you
  • 1 Corinthians 2:4 – My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power

We are a people of God’s presence walking in his power, Lord let your presence come, shower me with your gifts, my power is not enough, fill me with fire, envelop me with the Holy Spirit, live out your life in me, your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Jesus you are doing everything possible to keep each human soul from going to hell, let me tell of your love, let me boast of your power, Father let me feel for each person I encounter the love that you downpour on their life, let me understand the love that resulted in your sacrifice, your death, your resurrection, let me tune in to my connection with the living God, Father you know my name and if you are pleased with me show me your ways, do wonders before all nations so all will see how awesome you are, my preaching and message expressive of your love but a demonstration of the Spirit’s power is louder than any words I can impart, Lord change hearts, change thoughts, tell of your might, show me what’s good and right, light my path, fill me with fire, a desire to be transformed to your likeness, to lose all my weakness and gain all your strength, to grow in confidence as I walk in your power, to say Holy Spirit fill me as I grow closer to God, fill me as I absorb his word, fill me as I tell what I’ve heard, fill me, let my heart be stirred.

Jesus walking the walk with us

Been reading and reflecting on unity, within the church, within denominations and within geographical locations, wherever we are and whatever church we go to it doesn’t matter because in God’s eyes we are all one, all children of God and all his chosen people.  Got me to looking at some verses, kind of major focus on being patient and kind with each other, quick to forgive and full of love.

  • Colossians 3: 12-14 – Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
  • 1 Peter 3:8 – Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
  • Ephesians 4:2 – Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
  • Psalm 133:1 – How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
  • Matthew 18:20 – For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.’

Wear love wherever you go, clothe yourself with compassion and kindness, may you never need to remind us to be humble, gentle and patient, may our fellowship reflect love and unity, let the gospel unite us with common strengths and truths, forgiving others as you forgive too, let us be the light that leads the world to you, may our differences not divide us but remind us of the riches of your love, how good it is and how good it will be when we live together in unity claiming victory for God’s people, enjoying fellowship, prayer and praise and wherever two or more are gathered in your name may we declare and proclaim that you are there in the midst of us, Jesus walking the walk with us, listening as we talk, acting as we pray, hearing every word we say, may we seek to live more closely in unity in order to hasten eternal victory.

When I walk through a storm I plan to let go

Colossians 2 6-8  So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Micah 6:8  He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.   And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Just feel it’s so important to remember that Jesus is beside us constantly, wherever I go he is there,  my choice whether I embrace that or forget it, so I can talk to Jesus in every situation, seek his guidance, his comfort, his counsel or I can just forget he is there and try and do it my way.  So I may have only been a Christian a while but I already know that embracing Jesus and seeking his input at every crossroad, whenever I need to make a decision, before I even get out of bed each morning etc is the best and only way forward with him, he calms the storms… just a quick reminder is needed sometimes when I try and do it all myself that I should be walking more closely with Jesus, maybe that’s a bit of a hangover from my past life but something I am working on…

I have a new story to write, a new chapter of my life which is nothing like the past, but I have to let go of what I’m used to so I can walk bravely into the unknown, I have to learn that when I say Lord I cannot, he says yes but I can, when I’m wrestling with doubt I can cry out to the Lord, I don’t walk alone for my Father is with me but where is he taking me?  There is no confusion over the destination just a question over the path and the route but I’m not worrying about that, I worry too much, God’s got this, God’s all over it so when I walk through a storm I plan to let go, fill my mind with God’s word and leave no room for the enemies lies, walk every day with Jesus glued to my side, yes he is my map, my compass, my guide and yes he opens doors, picks me up when I fall, he shields me from panic and manically trying to retrace my steps, he pushes me forwards protects me from the enemy, he is there beside me and I fear no evil when he is with me, awake or asleep he protects me and when I wake up each morning he is still with me the torch to my feet the light to my path, he fills my heart with love and peace, I know that when I seek his will in all I do he leads me beside the still waters, the storm diminished, ended, finished and I am able to stand victorious, proclaiming his glorious name, no more blame, no more shame, with Jesus walking the path beside me I have claimed the victory and I will act justly, love mercy and however hard this earthly walk, I walk it humbly with my God, whose hands, feet and side were scarred for me so I could walk in liberty.
