I have been reading an interesting book which really highlights to me that it is a spiritual battleground that we live in. it’s actually helped me to understand why, when I first became a Christian, I struggled with my self harm more than ever before. It’s helped me to see God more as my “protector”, he is there battling for me at every stage of my journey. Yet, I too can take more control. I have the spiritual armour, I have my sword of the Spirit, so I should use this to rebuke Satan and all his schemes. One of my prayers is for God to bind his word to my forehead, to make it live in my heart.
- Deuteronomy 6:5-8 – So love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. Memorise his laws and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you’re at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night or getting up in the morning. Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and foreheads to help you obey them.
- Proverbs 6:20 -21 – My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Bind them always on your heart; fasten them round your neck.
- Proverbs 7:1-3 – My son, keep my wordsand store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
I believe the more I know God’s word the easier it becomes to rebuke the enemy and to stand firm in the faith. Not only that, I am able to offer words of encouragement and support to others, to pray more powerfully because I can use God’s own words. I remember with a smile that greater is he who is in me than he who is in the world, the battle has already been fought and won.
If you love the Lord then absorb yourself in his word, read like never before, understanding that all Scripture is God breathed, like a cloud descending to engulf us, his words fill the atmosphere and things that were hazy will slowly become clear, God is close, he is near, his word confirms that we should never fear, the enemy prowls like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour, his roar empty when he sees us on our knees, the sting gone from his tail when we nail him with our answers, the Lord God says, it is written, I am loved, I am forgiven, my armour is on, the battle lines drawn, God’s word is stored within my heart, I’m fully equipped to play my part..
