A true and loving Father who does not look back in anger.

Got to admit to getting angry this morning, not my best moment which then led to my being intolerant with a customer (although I’m not sure they noticed, the intolerance was mostly in my head) and letting off steam as I shouted idiot towards the door that they had just closed!

Felt terrible but then I gave it to God, asked his forgiveness and spent some time praying to him about the cause of my anger.

Isaiah 44:22 – I will sweep your sins away as if they were a cloud.  I will blow them away as if they were the morning mist. Return to me.  Then I will set you free.”

God tells us that he sweeps away our sins as if they were a cloud, I can just imagine his hand pushing the cloud out of sight.  He blows them away as if they were the morning mist, not even a vast breath required by God but a gentle breeze, and then he tells us that he will set us free.

So often we sin and hold on to it, like I’ve got to feel bad for the rest of the day because I have sinned, but God says no, I set you free.  I claim that for myself today, he died to bring me freedom 😊

Jonah 2:2 – He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help and you listened to my cry.

BLOWN AWAY

In my distress I called to the Lord and he answered me, OK so distress may be a gross exaggeration in this particular situation, but you get the gist, I was lost in a mist of anger, a danger to myself, the cloud of sin closing me in yet as I started to regret my behaviour, I called to my Saviour and he listened to my cry, he heard me calling and answered me, see this is what our God is like, no grudges and he always gives us second chances, he understands our fallen nature and his nature is to take a deep breath and blow the sins away as if they were a morning mist, a cloud dissolved in the blink of an eye, no need to keep looking up to the sky to confirm the cloud had gone, when God forgives it’s permanent, no ifs or buts, no fuss or bother, he is a true and loving Father who does not look back in anger.

I am praying that you will come to know God’s plans for you

Well need to get this off my chest, tomorrow is a massive day yet I have absolutely no control over the outcome.  So what’s so massive?  After 18 months of my being a Christian my “partner” finally agreed to go on an Alpha course.  She just agreed to go to the first introductory session for my sake and then it was up to her. She has chosen to continue on the course with a few wobbles.  She continues to deny God exists but after 6 sessions tomorrow is the Holy Spirit day. Now I have no idea how she will react as a self-confessed atheist to this but part of me feels this is the best opportunity she will ever have to see what I see, to feel what I feel and to come to know Jesus for herself.

I also have to be realistic that tomorrow may well not be the day God has pre-destined for her to give her life to him and his ways and plans are perfect.  God is in control and I need to trust his amazing grace.

I won’t deny that I’m finding it tough because I am so desperate for her to come to know God like I do, however whatever the outcome I am praising God for seeds that have been sown, for his awesome answers to prayer for even getting her this far and for his love for her, whatever the outcome tomorrow he still loves her 100% and always will.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

PRAYING FOR YOU

I am praying for you, I am praying that you will come to know God’s plans for you, plans that are even greater and more beautiful than the ones we used to share. I dare to imagine what life could be if you believed, if you dropped the atheist  label, turned the tables on your unbelief, saw the grief in my heart that you’re apart from God, felt the sadness that I do cos you still reside in darkness, no hope, no faith, yet I hold that hope for you and I believe that where there is hope there is faith, where there is faith miracles happen, I trust God to bless you and keep you, to make his face to shine upon you, I know that he is gracious to you and he will bring you peace. I trust God to speak to you, in his time though, not mine, I speak of a God who will do exceedingly and abundantly more than I can ask or imagine, the solutions and answers are in his hands, I pray that in the right place at the right time the seeds sown now will be harvested, that you will commit your life to Jesus and we can rejoice, jump up and down, laugh like we used to, cry with joy, rejoice with all who’ve prayed so hard for your salvation, show Satan the door cos he resides here no more, I am praying for you cos what more can I do, I am praying for you cos I love you and that love may have changed, my faith rearranged the basis of our relationship, but nothing can stop me from wanting you to see why that had to be, for you to get what I get, see what I see, feel what I feel when I kneel at my Father’s feet, I pray you too will feel God’s power. take a step back, turn your back on sin and let Jesus love come flooding in.

May your Kingdom come, your rules, your justice, your leaders, your church

So learnt the art of verse mapping yesterday (well started to delve into it) and have to say was amazed at the first results when I was praying earlier, I felt it helped bring more intention and purpose to the prayer and a deeper understanding of God’s heart in a way.

Just been experimenting a bit with the Lord’s prayer:

OUR FATHER

Our Father, yours, mine, belonging to everyone, no one is orphaned or abandoned, no one left Fatherless, what a contrast to life on earth, our Father who is in heaven, who did rise again, who did overcome and now you watch down on us from your heavenly throne, unknown to many but not one goes unknown by you, not one child unseen, praise your holy name, let me say that again, praise and all honour to the name of Jesus who sees each and every one of us and we ask on behalf of all those who don’t know you may your Kingdom come, your rules, your justice, your leaders, your church, may all that is pure and holy in heaven be achieved here on earth, may your children never go hungry or thirsty, provide for each of your children we pray and Father help us to forgive others as you forgive us, truly forgive, to bury the hatchet, to wipe the slate clean, help us to see how we can forgive and move on as we receive unconditional forgiveness from you let our forgiving nature shine through, do not allow us to be tested, lead us away from temptation, help us build firm foundations on you our rock, stop the evil one from taunting us, protect us with your heavenly wings, enfold us in your never ending love and when he does put tests before us may a heavenly chorus of worship and praise rise up in our hearts as we recognise that he’s testing us because you’ve set us apart to live with you for ever and ever, eternity and beyond, to respond as you taught us, thank you for teaching us to pray this prayer Jesus.

Praying for those who live on the edge…

Had the honour of doing our prayer of intercession at church this morning.  There is so much that we can be praying for sometimes it’s overwhelming but we know that God not only hears our prayers but he knows what’s on our hearts as well.  How amazing is that knowledge 🙂

Matthew 6:8 – for your Father knows what you need before you ask him

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

Lord we come to you with our prayers of intercession asking for your blessings to be poured out on those struggling in this broken world of ours, for those who live on the edge, who struggle for their daily bread, who may not even have a roof over their head and for those who walk through the valley of the shadow of death, bring healing to those suffering from sickness and help us to be salt and light in their darkness.

God you know all those who are struggling with depression and addiction, in their helplessness reach in and release them, surround them with people to help lead them away from temptation, deliver them from their heartache and bring them out of their trouble we ask in your name.

Father we bring before you those who are persecuted for their faith, tortured, imprisoned, chased from their homes, Lord fill them with a strength like they’ve never known, may they grow in their love for you, receive so much more of you, stand firm in your promises and where they see obstacles may they never forget that with you God all things are possible

Jesus who came to bring us life protect those in danger from war and strife, protect them from the enemy who comes to steal, kill, destroy, fill them with an immeasurable joy, help them in their day to day, stay close through each difficult hour, let them feel your might and power.

God, be with all those in government and positions of authority, embolden Christians within those communities to become beacons of hope, lead them in the paths of righteousness make it less about them and more about you and let your light shine through them in all that they do, be in the midst of every decision, and help them as they seek to promote your Kingdom.

Heavenly Father we pray for your church, we pray for our leaders in this time of immense pressure to conform to secular culture, we pray for truth and love to inform their preaching and your word alone to guide their teaching so that all who are seeking to find the truth will find the way is only through you.

Father we pray in confidence knowing that you hear our every word, you are already responding to our interaction with love and compassion, thank you that we know your reaction to our prayers is to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, and we are only scratching the surface of all the issues in this world but we know God that you’ve seen and heard what is on our hearts today, so we thank you for listening to us as we pray.

I address you in the name of Jesus

Reflecting on the story of David and Goliath it’s so good to know that with God on our side we can do anything.  We may feel small or insignificant but with God we really can be mighty warriors.

  • Samuel 17:32 – David said to Saul, ‘Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.’
  • Samuel 17:45 –  David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

Does this not illustrate that we should never lose heart, we can fight the enemy and be victorious, we just need to come at each and every problem in the name of our Lord God and we will be victorious. So when the enemy is trying to suck us in just fight back in the name of Jesus

IN THE NAME OF JESUS

No matter how you come at me, whatever words you say to me, however you try to torment me with lies and deceit, how you repeat those lies time and time again to try and get me to stray I will not be defeated in the name of Jesus,  I tell you I will not lose heart, I will not be parted from my Lord and Saviour, I am in his favour, favoured and chosen by my Father and I can stand up to you, I will stand up and I will fight, I live in the light now, I live in the reflection of my Father’s love, he’s looking down on me from above and he is my shield, my fortress, so I address you in the name of Jesus, be gone from me, be gone you have no dominion here, be gone I have no fear, no concern about your lies, I am God’s, alive in him for eternity, redeemed and saved I hold the victory.

Spirit of God a gift for me, another benefit of being free

Trinity Sunday and we were talking about the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit and I had not thought of the Holy Spirit in that light before – a “Gift” freely given by our heavenly Father.  So not only do we get access to God and Jesus we also have this amazing person living in us, to help us in every situation, draw us closer to God, help us in our daily walk, it truly is an amazing gift and isn’t God amazing, he knew we couldn’t do it on our own so when Jesus ascended into Heaven he had to give us something to help us through PRICELESS.

Acts 2:38 – Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:26 – In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Holy Spirit

I am Spirit filled, I have part of the Holy Trinity in me, access to my Father in heaven 24/7, no messing, the Holy Spirit lives in me, he came to me when I became a Christian when I turned to God and said sorry for my sins, when I was baptised he opened my eyes to the most incredible gift, and that’s what he is, Spirit of God a gift for me, another benefit of being free, and he doesn’t push me to do things I don’t want to do, he waits patiently to be desired, waits for me to recognise the power within me, brings gifts that are free like love, joy and peace, an amazing peace that surpasses all understanding, he fires me up to serve the Lord, prompts me to turn to God about others, conversely prompts me to talk to others about God, and although it sounds hard with the Spirit it’s easy, he gives me the words, gives me the courage, and I flourish because he lives in me, closer than you will ever get, he’s my safety net, my guide, my counsel, never doubtful he guides me to the truth, soothes me, smooths the path for me and understands my needs, Spirit of God walk with me, remain with me, live in me.

I wake, I pray and I slay, sword of the spirit in hand I prepare for battle

Been continuing to read Fervent and at the end of each chapter it encourages you to write your prayer for the subject covered, today I have been looking at focus.  When we pray it’s important to stay focussed and to me Ephesians 6:12 sums this up, we have to focus on who the battle is with.  However I found a number of other verses that helped me to write this prayer which I have referenced below.

  • Ephesians 6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
  • Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things
  • Colossians 3:2 – Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things..
  • Matthew 19:26 – Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
  • Zechariah 2:5 – And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will be its glory within.’
  • Psalm 32:8 – I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
  • James 5:16 – The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective
  • Psalm 105:4 – Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.
  • Revelation 22:12 – Behold I am coming soon

FOCUS

Father, you are coming soon, AMEN, Father I thank you for that truth, I praise you for your redeeming love, Father I set my mind on things above, whatever is noble, pure and right, I thank you for being the light of this world, all you have done is excellent and praiseworthy and only you are worthy of my praise and adoration, I thank you for my salvation and today I focus on truth, I focus on you and I see that the fight is not against flesh and blood, it’s a spiritual battle against darker forces and today I wake, I pray and I slay, sword of the spirit in hand I prepare for battle, where there is fear I give thanks, where there is anger I choose joy, I trust in your power and not in my plan and I know that a breakthrough is on its way, thank you that all things are possible through you, thank you that we know that our prayers are powerful and effective, thank you that as I look to you I gain strength, and Father place a wall of fire around me as I pray powerfully for my friends and family, as I intercede for others, for persecuted sisters and brothers, as I pray for my future, my walk with you help me focus on the truth, counsel me with your loving eye upon me, instruct me and teach me, free me to be a mighty warrior, strategizing against the enemy, focused on my purpose, determined, unwavering in my prayer, engaged for you in spiritual warfare.
