A form of courtship where God shows me how intimately he knows me

One of the passages spoken about on Saturday at our conference was Psalm 36.  In my notes I wrote “River of Delight”, so today have revisited the Psalm to see what this refers to.

Psalm 36:5-9

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,     your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,     your justice like the great deep.     You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!     People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast in the abundance of your house;     you give them drink from your river of delights.  For with you is the fountain of life;     in your light we see light.

Here David talks of God’s love in such a way that draws me in.  This is no ordinary love, this is a love that can be feasted on.  A feast that never ends, a river of delights that fulfils our every need and holy desire.  His love is light, a light that floods our lives, he is not just the giver of life but the fountain of life, renewing us repeatedly.

An invitation for me, as it floats down from heaven I see my name beautifully engraved on the envelope and it reminds me that my name is engraved on your hand, as it lands at my feet I see the intricacy of the craftsmanship, this is no ordinary invite, but you see this is no ordinary relationship, a form of courtship where God shows me how intimately he knows me, how much he loves me, how deeply he cares for me, his love reaching down from heaven to surround me, unfailing, never ending, sending signals to all who know me, his banner of love flies all around me, priceless, rare and valuable, a love that’s tangible, this is my unchangeable God who guards me fiercely, he brings me rest, and the best bit is I get to feast in the abundance of his generosity, I drink from the rivers of delight, his love lights me up, I am blessed in his rest, renewed by his love, invited to the eternal banquet in heaven above.

Fascinated for all eternity by your beauty

One day we will see the beauty of God for ourselves.  I was thinking about this when listening to a song this morning.  When I think of some of the most beautiful places I have been to in this world, where nature has literally made me gasp in amazement then I have to excitedly anticipate the day when God’s own beauty will be revealed.  You see all I have experienced is the beauty of God’s amazing creation which to me is mind blowing so how much more I have to look forward to in the future.  I was reading in Isaiah about the Seraphim and kind of got that the two wings covering their faces are because the beauty of God is too much to behold.  Interesting to think about heaven.  On one level I kind of just think it will be great but when I look at it on a deeper or more intricate level I just know I will be fascinated for all eternity by all the beauty I am going to encounter when I finally get there.

  • Revelation 22:4-5 – They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
  • Psalm 27:4 – One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple.
  • Isaiah 6:2-3 – Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.  And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.’
  • Isaiah 33:17 -Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; they will behold a far-distant land.
  • Acts 7:55 – But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God;

Fascinated for all eternity by your beauty, as we the newly appointed residents of your heavenly Kingdom bow in fearsome reverence and praise we’ll see your face, no more night, just eternal day and we shall reign for ever and ever a reward for those who have spent their days seeking to obey, as we sought salvation God has brought us through every temptation to dwell in his house all the days of our lives, to behold his beauty, to meditate duly in his temple, our eyes will see the King in his beauty, we shall gaze intently into his glory our old lives gone, history, this a new story, a story of amazing grace where the light of your face will flow into our space, the race has been run a new chapter begun, and there is nothing more perfect that I can imagine than to see just a fraction of your beauty, to finally see a reflection of your perfection.

Do you grasp the enormity of living a life of uncertainty

We’re all going to die, no arguments there it’s a 100% fact.  But as Christians I realise we have nothing to fear, in fact in Philippians we see that to die is gain, when we die we can claim our home in heaven because the truth is dead or alive, we belong to the Lord.  However it saddens us all that we have friends and family who don’t yet know Jesus and our prayers are constantly focussed on them.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:22 – For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
  • Philippians 1:21 – For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain
  • Romans 8:38-39 – For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord
  • Romans 14:8 – If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 – or the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever

We’re all gonna die, period, end of story, have you made your history with God or are you walking in the dark?  Well here’s a stark reality, if you don’t make your peace with God you’re in for a dismal eternity and there is an urgency in this message, don’t mess with the masquerading Angel of light, he comes to destroy your life, to steal your joy, he’ll deploy every strategy to convince you that heaven’s a fantasy, a place that exists in the minds of those who fear their mortality, yet you need to grasp the reality that you are loved by the light of the world who longs for your companionship, for you to claim membership of the body of Christ before you die, to enjoy a friendship with him now and then plough headfirst into an eternity of love and peace, where death is no longer, tears are no more, so here’s the score we belong to the Lord and he is willing to forgive everything you ever did that caused you to hang your head in shame, he takes the blame off you, lifts the weight off your shoulders, he doesn’t want to control you, he gives you free will, yet still he wants you to see the truth to smooth your path, can you not grasp the enormity of living a life of uncertainty?  I am loved and I am free, heaven, I wouldn’t miss it for the world, don’t you get it, freewill allows you to choose God’s treasure over earthly pleasures, this lifetime just a fleeting moment in eternity, it’s time to grasp that unless you believe you will never be free, condemned to an eternity of darkness, separated from Jesus and what that means is no love, no light, all that is wrong and nothing that’s right, pain, tears, insecurity, fears, need I go on, eternity’s a very long time to suffer for your crimes when your slate can be wiped clean, just lean in to Jesus and ask his forgiveness.

Almost like he makes time stand still

I love this verse it really speaks to me in a number of ways, one of which is that God is patient and he gives us time to change, he wants us to meet with him, he wants us to turn away from our sins and as such he is so patient that it’s almost like he makes time stand still just so that we get a chance to be with him in heaven.

2 Peter 3: 8-9 – But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

God I want to thank you for your patience, for your fresh and original approach to understanding human processes, for keeping your promises and waiting patiently for me to see the error of my ways, for turning days into weeks and weeks into years, for treating me as a dear friend who you don’t want to flounder and even while I was still a doubter you loved me, even as I questioned your sovereignty you gave your life for me, your love so immense you wanted me to repent to prevent me from perishing in hell for ever, you never wanted that, you wanted a relationship, a partnership, you wanted to give me power and authority to live my life in victory and now I see that you give us the capacity to live as we feel free, to make choices, to choose life, choose eternity, to become personally acquainted with our God and Saviour and I have never been so happy as the day my creator saved me, pulled me from obscurity, placed a crown upon my head, daughter of a King, I sing it from the highest mountain, proclaim it to all the nations, God is faithful, merciful and true, so here’s a question worth a mention, what does my God mean to you?

One voice singing God you are worthy

Romans 15: 5-7 may the God who gives you endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Jesus Christ had so with one voice and one mind you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another then just as Christ accepted you in order to bring praise to God

We had over 19 churches represented at our conference yesterday from all different denominations and it was great to worship God together with no differences..we all serve the most wonderful and amazing God. It’s important I think even within our own churches as well as externally to stand in unity in order to bring total praise to God.

Give me a Godly attitude Lord, may I think like you, see as you do, hear what you hear and feel what you feel, make it real to me Lord, the realisation of your forgiveness, your unreserved acceptance of me into eternity, never let me be judgemental, let me be all encompasssing welcoming everyone into my life, let no bad words come from my mouth, guard my tongue, reserve it for praise alone, a praise no one has ever known, praising you God with abundant love, praising with the angels above, one voice on earth, one voice of hope and of love, one voice teaching others of God and your amazing grace and mercy, one voice singing God you are worthy.

I talk to you more than I talk to anyone else

Do you ever just sit back in awe at all that God is doing in your life and how much your life has changed since you got to know him?  Today I was just a little overwhelmed by how my life has changed in just under a year, sure there have been some lows (well documented on this Blog) but now I seriously feel the highs and know that God is so great and so mighty that he has transformed me and continues to show me wonderful things on a daily basis

Jeremiah 33:3  – “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

God I have so much going through my head it’s hard to hone in on one thing, you are everything to me now God and I feel like I am learning so much every day, you say so much to me it’s kind of scary to think how little I knew before I gave my life to you, how void I was of joy and peace and now I know whatever the state of affairs I can dig deep in my faith and just wait.  I talk to you more than I talk to anyone else and that’s cool with me, you see when I talk to you there is no pressure, you take it all and give back the best recommendations, the best solutions and it’s no quick fix, your plans eclipse all I could imagine and God I am cashing in on all your Glory, all the wondrous promises that you have given me, I claim the victory over all that once chained me, the chains have been ripped off and I am free, free to be me, free to see that you are all I need, no need for greed where you’re concerned I have learned to keep my eyes on you and allow those streams of living water to flow, I see the river overflowing and I am growing in knowledge, where I once sat on the edge of the pit of despair I now sit at your side, you are my guide, my light, all that is right and good in my life, your sacrifice astounds me every day, you paid for my sins, got rid of all the stuff that I did, I am pardoned and I am heartened every time I think of you, my Father, my friend, I’m gonna be with you in the world without end and I am so excited to have been invited to share eternity with the King of Glory, the God of Victory, triumphantly I take my place knowing I have run the race, the path marked out for me and that my God is all I need.

With reckless grace you faced death on a cross

1 Corinthians 15:55 – “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

Sad day today in so much as accompanied my friend to the vets where her dog of 12 years was put down.  Was emotional and raw, lots of tears and oddly it reminded me of some words from the Matt Redman song, Abide with me and made me think more about what lies ahead for us who know and love God, who have the promise of life eternal with him

And up ahead, eternity, we’ll weep no more and sing for joy, abide with me

Death where is your sting, our resurrected King has crushed you, trampled over death by death, with reckless grace he faced death on a cross and death lost all authority and you see a lot can happen in three days, death defeated, overthrown, no come backs, no final words, the ground began to shake, the stone was rolled away, his perfect love was not overcome, forever he is glorified, lifted high, a risen Saviour, Jesus raised from the dead , he will never die again, death defeated as dead as my sin, death not the end but the beginning, Satan a defeated foe and so it is that I am free, I’ll weep no more, I’ll sing for joy I reach out for what lies ahead, I know my God abides with me and guides me to eternity.
