Why are we falling into Satan’s trap, I can’t do this, I can’t say that

Frustrated is a word I would use for my emotions today and this is all borne out of my own issues with struggling to understand Christians who seem to lack an external passion for God.  Now I’m really trying not to sound judgmental and I have been talking to God about this and repented of my feelings this morning.  What I am saying below is just a word maybe of encouragement to not wait, because we all know tomorrow never comes.  It’s good that we’re all different, if the world was full of people like me I hazard a guess it would be chaotic, however I know that God can use every single one of us right how we are now, if we just ask him to use us.

  • Matthew 5:15 – Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
  • Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
  • Matthew 28:19 – Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  • Romans 10:14-15 – How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Born to breathe fire, born to fly, not born to sit back and take it easy, born to live, born to give, chosen, anointed, designed for success, it’s less about you and more about God, giving him the glory as you work out your story, don’t look back, don’t lack ambition, God is with you in each situation, no fear, no anxiety, hasn’t he told us that he is trustworthy, give it to him, give him your worries, relax your grip, don’t flip out, don’t scream and shout, give them to God, it’s really not hard, what are you scared of, why all the angst, think about that while you stop and give thanks, anxiety, a human emotion of which God has spoken, do not be afraid, why don’t you hear him, what part of his words are unclear, he longs for you to give him your fears, step up to the plate before it’s too late and you wonder why life’s passed you by, we have a calling, we have good news, why are we falling into Satan’s trap, I can’t do this, I can’t say that, stand up, take a bow and tell others of your love for God right now, share what he’s done for you, share how he loves you, will you take the first step, please let it be so?

Every distraction and disruption malfunctioned

Yesterday morning I spent 2 hours in the prayer room at church and strongly felt God talking to me about Psalm 139.  I focused on a picture of a baby grasping it’s Father’s thumb, the four tiny fingers gripping so hard the strong hand, and the strong arms that enfolded the baby really spoke to me of God’s love and strength.  Whilst sometimes we feel we are just gripping on, God has actually got us safely held in his strong arms, we’re not going anywhere.  I recalled Psalm 139 and how I was chosen and observed throughout my miraculous creation.

However sometimes I think God has a message and we don’t quite get it.  Still struggling with issues from the past I called a friend in the afternoon and after some discussion she suggested we go to Vineyard that evening for a service.  God works in mysterious and awesome ways, yes you guessed it the sermon was based on Psalm 139.  Yet not the part I had focused on in the morning but the part I really needed to hear and act on – a prayer in verse 23 and 24.

Psalm 139:23-24 – Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting

I know that there is an area of my life, namely my past, that I have issues with and I know that rather than being anxious about that or allowing it to rule my mind I have an opportunity to hand that to God and live my life in God’s everlasting way.  So thanks to my friend and to God’s prompting I am another step forward in recognising that I need to open that up to God and ask him to take control.

I lift my head, set my sights on God and vow to finish this race in victory, more than a conqueror through him who loves me, indeed an overcomer with nothing to fear, it couldn’t be more clear God is for me so who can be against me I am a child of the one true King, Satan your lies hold no sting for me, your deceit, well that’s history, everything you meant for destruction, every distraction and disruption malfunctioned, God has an injunction on you, a restraining order, you cannot touch me, I am free, no darkness in me, God’s light has illuminated all the shadows where you sought to find a place to taunt and goad and disrupt my race, God’s love has freed me, he shapes my identity, he’s greater, stronger and more powerful than anything you throw at me, I grow through what I go through and I know that God is going to use me, an overcomer I lift my head, set my eyes on God and give him the glory.

I flounder in the mire of earthly grime

The Christian walk can be tough.  You hear of situations that really challenge believers, whether fairly new believers like me or believers who have spent their whole life serving the Lord.  God really never did say it would be easy, and I suspect he knew that as Christians Satan would do everything in his power to bring us down.  I am reminded of the words from the song “In Christ Alone” that illustrate that Satan is doomed to fail in that respect, “no power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand”.

Praise God that he is faithful and good and we can rely on him to see us through each and every storm of our lives.

When storms rage all around me, when I find it hard to see the path ahead, a sense of dread fills me as I struggle to find level ground, I flounder in the mire of earthly grime, mud sticking to me as I flee the sin and shame, this not the game I chose to play, not today, not this way, I need to stay focused I need to be clear and then the words ring in my ears, no power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand, the sinking sand turns to dust, the thoughts in my head turn to trust, he never fails me, never leaves my side, it’s time I believed I will survive this with God on my side, the storms may rage, the winds may blow but one thing that I know for sure, my God is my rock, I am secure, just keep my eyes fixed on his, his grip on my hand tightens and I am no longer frightened, whatever the devil chooses today, he will not get his way, I am Gods and he is mine and there’s nothing Satan can do to undermine that connection, the love of a Father that is pure perfection.

Don’t get sucked in to the spiral of destruction

It’s such a shame that the media always focus in on the negative and not the positive.  Like today I’ve woken up to press stories on facebook about a Christian “Mom” Blogger who has now divorced her husband and is dating another woman.  Can you imagine the same headline for a Gay Blogger who found Christ, I don’t think so!

In Mark 11 we read the story of the fig tree, a tree full of leaves and show but bearing no fruit.  We need to be wary of “Christians” who are like this.  We need to be wary of those who label themselves “Christian” as a form of religious belief but who have no personal relationship with God.  I was reminded only yesterday of the need to focus on God alone.  If the devil taunts or tempts look him straight in the eye, that is do not be afraid of him, do not give in to him and walk away from the temptations.

It appears that in this particular case the Blogger was already advocating behaviours outside of God’s teaching and that is the start of the slippery slope.  If we are grounded in God, grounded in his word whatever Satan says to us we can rebuke.  Jesus himself used scripture when tempted in the wilderness, how much more should we use it in these dark days.

Bearing no fruit, barren, desolate, desperate, franticly trying to tempt us, audaciously wooing us with attractive bait, feeding our cravings, talking to our greed, not our needs, talking to our lust as we’re pulled into the dust, disgust, not a word our God uses, we have no excuses but God still absolves us once we resolve to walk with him, when we recognise our sin, open your eyes to the love he offers, turn your back on the scoffers, the false teachers and preachers, those who seek to entice you with their lies, keep your eyes on the prize the perfecter of our faith who stands with arms open wide and as the battle rages we remember that the wages of sin is death yet the free gift of God is eternal life, don’t give into the lies, don’t get sucked in to the spiral of destruction, don’t let any obstruction stand between you and Jesus, trust and obey and you will receive his forgiveness.

Satan’s arrows are focused on you

I read the following quote today:

The price of gullibility is the adulteration of the gospel for which Christ gave his life.

So this is a topic I have blogged about before and is close to my heart.  How long before we see through those who are false teachers and false prophets, those who are adulterating the word of God and twisting it to suit their cause?  The enemy is using people from within our own churches and our own communities to help his cause and we, as servants of the Living God must be active in countering the work of the enemy to protect ourselves, our church members and to stand firm with our Christian brothers and sisters to teach God’s word to all. And when I say God’s word I mean his word as it was written and ordained not as man translates it in this modern world to suit our modern lifestyles and sin.

  • Romans 16:18 – For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naïve people.
  • Colossians 2:8 – See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
  • Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
  • Isaiah 40:8 – The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures for ever.

Satan’s target is your mind, his weapon is lies, his purpose to lead you away from God’s will, but you have a weapon and that is the unadulterated word of God, do not follow the ways of man, majority rule does not mean the majority are right, the bright lights may be attractive but the fact is the way to heaven is narrow, Satan’s arrows are focused on you, he sends wolves in sheep’s clothing to entice you but here’s some advice to adhere to, divisive people are self-serving and use their word and speech to influence others, they seek to smother your thoughts and beliefs with lies and deceit, Satan’s greatest weapon is our ignorance, neutralising the gospel through addition, subtraction or substitution, he tries to detour our destiny, carefully chipping away at the truth, fragile man who so often is gullible  believing anything so long as it’s not in the Bible, to be a good disciple you need to know the truth to discern a lie, God cries out for you to return to the gospel that demands our all, he calls us to righteousness, repentance and change, exchanging ignorance for wisdom, receiving the keys to God’s eternal Kingdom, draw closer to the flawless word of God that endures forever, spend time with God reading his word, guard that time jealously removed from all influence of human flattery, let no word of the enemy take us captive we must keep proactive in our walk with Jesus and no word or deed will ever deceive us.

Satan is working relentlessly to corrupt the church and all those within

I have been reading more and more into false teachers and prophets and am getting more of a feel for how the enemy is operating in this world.  Yes he comes to deceive, kill and destroy and one of the main ways of doing this is through infiltrating the church, “masquerading as an Angel of Light”.  He seeks to destroy churches he seeks to destroy families and he is succeeding in so many areas.  We have to use the word, God’s word to counter his attacks and one of the things I see so much is an ignorance to God’s word or an apathy towards it, leading me to question are too many Christians lukewarm?

I for one believe that the Bible is God’s word and if we use this prayerfully we can discern false teaching we can challenge it and pray into situations which need us to act urgently to counter the devil’s drive to win souls for hell.

  • 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 – “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.”
  • 1 Peter 5:8 – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”
  • Ephesians 6:12 – “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” The battle is not between human beings. It’s against the prince of this world.

He masquerades as one of us, master of deception transformed into an angel of light, skilful impersonator perfect in all of his ways from the day he was created until iniquity was found in him, when pride overtook him and he sought to be greater than the King of Kings, thought he should receive our offerings, he broke away from God’s heavenly Kingdom and you know he loves religion, wanting his fifteen minutes of fame, he twists and turns, hides his true name, capitalising on our love of the light to deceive, he wants us to believe that his way is good, he wants the Bible to be misunderstood, disguised he seeks to kill, steal, destroy, he’s attacking the church from within, don’t be sucked in, sin remains sin, yet Satan is working relentlessly to corrupt the church and all those within, he’s set his devious trap, turning black to white and white to black, too many people turning back because they don’t know the truth, he’s testing their faith but let’s face it, if you don’t know God’s word it’s going to be hard to discern what is of God and what is of the enemy who’s buried his true identity, feeding controversy, promoting dissension, causing tension, making religion a mockery and contrary to his bold assertions all that glitters is not gold, we must be bold, stand up for the truth, be alert, wide awake, the words of God hold power and it’s now or never, if ever people needed to be warned it’s now, eyes wide open to his trickery we need zero tolerance to biblical deviancy, too frequently we agree with lukewarm policy when we need to be on fire for God and his unchangeable word, recognising the source of the fight is the angel masquerading in light, a wrestle against spiritual wickedness in high places, the devil who paces looking to devour those faltering, altering the word to suit their purpose, it’s not a circus it’s not a show, we know from the word of God that false apostles and deceitful workers will come amongst us, we know that we’re in a spiritual battle and it’s time to unravel truth from deceit, time to speak out, to show other Christians what we’re all about, to reclaim those lost to the enemy’s lies, to refocus each other on the wonderful prize that awaits those who proclaim that Jesus is Lord to wield the Sword of the Spirit and publically exhibit our allegiance to Jesus.

Satan strikes, distorting the truth, telling a lie

Was taking a session last night based on the “Fervent” book and the topic was our “Identity”.  So was great for me to spend time planning it cos it really highlighted to me the myriad of ways that the enemy seeks to define me, yet for every negative he speaks over me there is more than one positive verse in the Bible telling me the truth.  And it’s the truth we have to listen to, God is truth, God is love and in God we have our true identity.

Ephesians 6:14 – Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place

Satan strikes, distorting the truth, telling a lie, causing self-hatred but hang on, I was born for greatness, chosen while I was still formless, created by Jesus, loved and adopted into God’s family, daughter of his Majesty, redeemed and forgiven by the risen Lord, so Satan just let me get my sword, God’s word which tells me all I need to know, wherever I go, God has already gone before me, sealed with his Spirit, filled with wisdom no longer a victim to your deceit and lies, I fly in the face of adversity, strengthened by my God who raises me up to his heavenly places, his Grace is sufficient for me and in my weakness he sustains me, my brain is protected, your words are buffeted against my helmet of salvation, so no more negatives, only positives, I am auditing my identity, preparing my weaponry, the enemy is helpless to change my destiny, for I am free and I am favoured, no longer in danger of mistaken identity, I am God’s kid and that’s enough for me.
