God, when my arms are tired…

Exodus 17:12 – Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset.

I feel like God led me to this verse this morning.  It’s almost a reminder that being obedient to God can be hard on your own, the sword of the spirit we carry around is heavy, the shield of faith in the other hand can also weigh us down.  What we need is people around us like Aaron and Hur who can support us when we most need it.  Hands lifted high indicative of praise, sometimes we struggle to praise when life is tough.  Hands lifted high, indicative of celebration, it’s good to share our celebrations with others.  Arms lifted high, in Exodus indicative of a battle.  Let’s face it we know our fight is not against flesh and blood but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12) and sometimes doing that alone is mighty tough.

Let us all aspire to surround ourselves with those who can hold us when we struggle, celebrate with us over God’s goodness and fight the battle with us when we need to stand strong.

WHEN MY ARMS ARE TIRED

God when my arms are tired, when I’m feeling weak, when my feet are floundering and the pot holes are deep, when I’m under attack, give me friends to watch my back, when I lack the strength to do your will, help me stop and just be still, when Satan gives me a hard time, remind me gently “you are mine”, when life feels like an uphill climb, may my prayer become like dynamite, powerful, faith filled words of clout, words of passion, words of faith that make you lean forward, bringing a smile to your face, prayers that show I trust in you, prayers that say, my God can do more than I can ask or ever imagine, prayers that shake the heavenly Kingdom, and as I fall to my knees, may these special friends be by my side as we ride the storms of life together, mutual support through the stormy weather, friends in life and friends forever, God I know that with you I am never alone but I praise you for friends that hold my arms high through the praise and the hurt and the difficult times.
