Be contagious for Jesus

Do we have the heart of Jesus when it comes to spreading the news of his love?  Do we have the heart of the early disciples in bringing friends, family, community to come to know Jesus like we do? In Romans Paul writes that his heart is broken and he is troubled.  So much so he goes on to say he would sacrifice himself so that others could come to Jesus.  Now that’s passion.  It’s time to come down from our towers, to love like Jesus loved, to live like Jesus lived and to lead like Jesus led.

Romans 9: 1-2 –  I am a follower of Christ, and the Holy Spirit is a witness to my conscience. So I tell the truth and I am not lying when I say my heart is broken and I am in great sorrow.

What would Jesus do?  Come on think this through, what would Jesus do about the mess this world is in, the sinners and the sin, how would his heart break, his eyes shed tears, what sacrifice would he make to take away the sin of the world, you won’t find him hiding within the four walls of the church, he won’t be found in a meeting trying to agree on what’s happening next, he won’t be busy sending texts or facebook posts, asking what most people want to do, he isn’t waiting for the next season of sermons to be ready, he’s not waiting for the economy to steady, he’s not waiting for the next election, he’s not for keeping his resurrection the best kept secret, you won’t find him greeting his besties and ignoring the nobodies, I think you’ll find him on his knees, talking earnestly with his Father, you’ll find him in the town centre, in the market, wherever he can park his seat and have a chat, that’s where he’s at, he laid down his life, that’s what I call a sacrifice, he sought out the sick, the hurting, those who others all avoided, unclean, not to Jesus, washed clean by his blood, redeemed by his love, what would Jesus do?   He’s already done it, he died on a Cross, that’s when he did it, his death overcame sin and all its power, he alone is our tower, he alone is our Saviour and as you start to get a flavour of what Jesus was about you need to recognise the same clout lives in you, the same power and he that is in you is so much greater than he that is in the world, Jesus calls us to follow him, live as he lived, love as he loves, be bold, be courageous, be a little outrageous, for God is with you wherever you go, be contagious for Jesus, let everyone know..

Jesus wept.  That kind of swept me off my feet

Up until today I knew the shortest verse in the Bible was John 11:35 but I had never grasped its significance.

John 11:35 – Jesus Wept

As our preacher spoke of the death of Lazarus it started to dawn on me.  Jesus loves me in the same way he loved Lazarus.  As he wept openly at the tomb of Lazarus so he has wept at my “death”.  By that I don’t mean my physical death but the times when I turned my back on God, the times I chose to follow the world and not him.  Jesus wept over me.  In the same way that Jesus prayed at the entrance of the tomb of Lazarus I believe he prayed and interceded for me and continues to do so.

  • Hebrews 7:25 – Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them
  • Isaiah 53:12…. For he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors
  • 1 John 2:1-2 – My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world

Now if that’s not outrageous love, I’m not sure what is!

Jesus wept.  That kind of swept me off my feet, see if Jesus cried then he knows what we go through when the tears start to flow, he gets all the sadness when life brings us low, Jesus wept because he was human, his love for his friend all-consuming, his tears indicative of the pain he felt, the agony of loss, and this same Jesus cried over me, see, we are part of his family, each one of us holds a place in his heart, he gives us the glory that he too received, believing in you and believing in me and in the same way that he prayed for his friend, he prays and intercedes for our offences, he’s already taken the consequences but because of his outrageous love, because he thinks the world of us, this Jesus is our advocate, standing between us and the Father, praying for us to prosper, asking for us to be fostered into God’s family, interceding for our sins, able to save us completely, his tears not those cried briefly, his tears from the heart fall to set us apart from the sin that hardened our hearts, his tears a genuine indication of his desire to save every nation, that not one should perish, each life cherished.

Amazing Love how can it be?

Had the most awesome day today at our Ladies conference, the theme Outrageously Loved.  Yet again God let me know personally how loved I am as a word of knowledge was given which was for me.  That’s a whole new blog entry but for today was just so inspired by all the different types of love I wrote this:

God’s Love

Sacrificial Love, he died for me

Conquering Love, claiming victory

Embracing Love, he cherishes me

Saving Love, he ransomed me

Forgiving Love, my sins are gone

Sharing Love, apportioned to me

Repeating Love, mine for Eternity

Partnering Love, he works with me

Unrelenting Love, he never gives up on me

Obsessive Love, guarding me jealously

All-knowing Love, he knows me intimately

All-seeing Love, he sees my every need

Passionate Love, his banner flies over me

Outrageous Love, it’s dazzling me

Ask about God and I tell you of outrageous love

I’m taking part in a two-week prayer assignment leading up to a conference at our church and today was “A time to reflect on God’s outrageous love and how we can never be parted from it”

Isaiah 62:5 – As a young man marries a young woman so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you

Zephaniah 3:17 – The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.’

You ask about my God and I tell you of outrageous love, I try to express his beauty and then words fail me, can I do him justice as I seek to explain how he came to earth and lived amongst us, Jesus lived as one of us, he understands, he gets us, his love knows no limits, no boundaries, he died horrendously, nailed to a cross and left to die, that was how much I meant to him, no one compares to his greatness, he is the source of all power and goodness and his goodness pursues me all the days of my life , I am surrounded by his favour, his indulgence as he delights over me with singing, defending me in battles and always winning, he protects me from those who seek to harm me, this is the God who loves me, the same God who counts the stars and calls them by name, whose promises are full of yes and Amens, whose Kingdom will know no end, this is my God of outrageous love, who is so in love with me that he died for me, outrageous love, outrageously given by my God who is love by definition.

Emissions of stinking pride and lust

Reflecting still on God’s immense love for me and this was echoed loudly in my daily Bible reading from Isaiah 43.  I am getting a better feel for what that love really looks like; adoption into God’s family, a family without borders, a family without secrets, without the mess and guilt that comes with human families.  An eternal Father, that is an eternal Father who will always be by my side no matter what, who will always treat me with love and respect and who will be proud to be known as my Daddy.  My eternal Father sees me as “priceless”, “precious and honoured” in his sight.  Wow and I thought that Jesus dying for me was priceless yet God sees me as priceless, go figure that one out!

  • 1 John 3:1 – See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
  • Isaiah 43:1 – Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
  • Isaiah 43:4 – Since you are precious and honoured in my sight and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life
  • Psalm 17:7 – Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.
  • Song of Solomon 2:4 – Let him lead me to the banquet hall and let his banner over me be love.

This world is broken, period.  A dark and soulless place, the human race struggling with selfish ambition, competition, vying for position, emissions of stinking pride and lust, vanity, insanity, profanity, humanity on the edge yet God looks down, hand outstretched, come to me all who are burdened, all who need rest.  Heavy hearted?  I have not departed, I never left you, my love for you never ending, I’m sending you this reminder, do not fear for you are mine, call out to me and I will call your name, cast your shame on me, precious and honoured in my sight, priceless, you ain’t seen nothing like this, love, honour and respect, not to mention your debt blotted out because his love came down, and he wants all to know that you are his adopted child, hand-picked to sit at his side, see the great love he will lavish on us, answer him and be called a child of the one true King.

Knickerbocker Glory happiness, memories of a childhood

Outrageous love, what does that look like for you?

I was at a meeting last night with a truly inspirational woman of God and she was talking about how we can be bold and ask God stuff outright, like “what do you love about me?”, if we are struggling with ill health “what is my body telling you God?” and for me this morning as we plan a conference called Outrageously Loved I asked God “what does receiving your outrageous love mean for me?”

OK so I will need to explain this but when I asked that question I got the impression of a Knickerbocker Glory!  When I was very young if I got a good school report I was taken to Wimpy and treated to a Knickerbocker Glory.  As a young child this was, I suppose, my interpretation of being thoroughly and outrageously spoilt.  I also got the impression when asking God this question of him sitting across from me in the booth and enjoying watching me eat the Knickerbocker Glory, he was delighting in my enjoyment, I felt him walking down the road with me, holding my hand and it was as if I was still that child.  That is surely what being loved outrageously is all about WOW, don’t you just love how God talks to us.

Knickerbocker Glory happiness, memories of a childhood, a parent’s love for us, delighting in our joy, seeing the world through a child’s eyes, skipping, laughing, holding hands, the excitement of the moment shared, parental time given freely, a really special memory, more than rewarded, accorded a position of significance, my time to dance, my time to bask in a Father’s love, and as I ask my God above what outrageous love means for me, I see that he delights in me, I hold a special place of affection in his heart, I’m smart, I’m funny, I shine and he rejoices that he is mine and I am his, his outrageous love lavished over me in ways that only he can deliver, his love unending, not pretending, a love so real, so deep, so wide that nothing can keep me from his side, outrageously loved by an outrageous Father, adored, beloved, afforded special favour.

Three gifts for me, three gifts I see,

I am outrageously loved by God.  Got me to thinking about what being outrageously loved means to me:

Song of Solomon 2:4 – Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love.

Psalm 20:5 – May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests.

Outrageously loved, living in freedom, wanting for nothing, pampered and chosen, protected and worthy, held tight, living in light, three gifts for me, three gifts I see, outrageous love, Jesus on the cross, outrageous love, flames of the Holy Spirit falling on me, God leans in for number three as he quietly and lovingly gives me his heart, outrageous love can never depart from me, he’s brought me into his banqueting house and his banner over me is forever love, I sing for joy and rejoice in my salvation as God himself fulfils all my petitions.
