No act done for show, all done so we could know that God is love

The Bible tells us that Jesus performed many other signs and miracles that are not recorded.  When I read the Bible and read of the miracles I feel that there is no need for more proof.  If we can’t believe through what we already know then there is nothing that will change our minds.  Am I guilty sometimes of asking God to show me, speak clearly to me or prove something to me?  Yes, I think I am.  God, I don’t need any more proof, any signs or wonders, I believe, help me to be content with who you are and what you have done for me already.

John 20:31 – But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name

SIGNS AND WONDERS

Signs and wonders, yes bring it on, have you heard about Jesus the son of God, he turned water into wine, he healed the sick, he even made a dead man live, he turned five fish and two loaves into food for shedloads of people who’d turned out to see him, and get this, when the soldier at Gethsemane had his ear sliced off, he reconnected it, no bother no fuss, he calmed a storm, he walked on water, he healed the Centurion’s daughter, he cast demons into swine who ran off the cliff top and proceeded to drown, he was crowned with thorns but that didn’t keep this good man down, he came back from the dead, raised high and mighty and I for one won’t take that lightly, the things he did on earth should help us see he loved completely, no act done for show, all done so we could know that God is love, I don’t need to put my hand in his side, to see the scars in his hands and feet, I am complete because he loves me, I am content knowing that Jesus chose me, I don’t need signs and wonders, miracles that turn my head, I just need to spend time at his feet in prayer, get my head stuck in his word and concentrate on praising my God.

His Grace sufficient with more to spare

Do you ever look back and see God’s hand in your life?  How he has steered you, guided you, created opportunities; basically life is a series of miracles created by God.  How amazing that is, I just feel like although I missed some opportunities that God laid on for me, he still laid on more.  He never gives up or turns his back, he just continues to give us chances until we finally become obedient and then receive the amazing blessing he has in store for us.

MIRACLES

Life is a series of thousands of tiny miracles, notice them, my God is extreme, as he leans in he whispers into my ear, do not fear for you are beautiful, you are made in my image,  I didn’t give you a timid spirit, sit up, take notice of the roaring lion within, the warrior spirit, be fearless, be bold, courageous, you will not succumb to temptation, didn’t I mention that you will face nothing you cannot bear, my Grace sufficient with more to spare, my God is outrageous, he makes me courageous in the face of persecution and seclusion I am not abandoned, he never leaves or forsakes me, that is he’ll never leave me in the lurch, part of his church I am surrounded by love and prayer, I’m part of a family, believe me, my God is not moderate, nor is he complicated, outdated, his word does not need to be moderated, he created me, waited for me, a new creation destined to be perfectly led in God’s perfect ways, all of my days ordained in his book, no longer overlooked I bask in God’s love, radiating his light, perfected at last.

I can’t, God can, God wins, The End

How many times do we want to do something for God and then shrink back?  Like today I wanted to offer to pray for someone who was really struggling, but I ended up just having a chat and being sympathetic.  That’s OK but how much more powerful would it have been to pray with them?  We need courage and a faith that says, if I can’t do it, God can.  If I show up then God shows up too cos he lives in me so just let him take over.  That’s my prayer today that I will have the boldness and courage to say what I think God wants me to say, to do what he wants me to do, after all what can go wrong when God is with me?

  • Mark 9:24 – Right away the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe! Help me overcome my unbelief!”
  • 1 Samuel 12:16 – So stand still. Watch the great thing the Lord is about to do right here in front of you!

FAITH OVER FEAR

God I choose faith over fear, I know you hear my heart when it cries out to you, “What can I do in this situation?” I know you see the deflation in my heart when I depart from what I know you want me to do because I am scared of looking a fool and I know you will never abandon me, I see that I need to be stronger no longer trying to hide from you God when you ask me to do something for you, and why would I doubt the power of prayer, God I want to become a player in your heavenly Kingdom, I want to abandon my fears and concerns and learn how to draw on your power, to stand still right now this hour and watch the great things you’re about to do, to see the sick healed, stand up and walk, to see the blind see, I do believe, miracles, that’s just daily living in your heavenly Kingdom, five loaves, two fishes, water turned to wine, people healed time after time, bodies raised from the dead, lepers washed clean, I mean I know that was then but this is now, how much more is happening if we open our eyes, God’s miracles playing out in thousands of lives, I do believe, I have boldness, I am more than a conqueror because he loved us and who am I kidding when I say that I’m scared, afraid of what?  The safest place in all the world is in the will of God, God who lives in me for all eternity, he never abandons me, I do believe, I understand, I can’t, God can, God wins, The End

Handing Jesus to the enemy in order to secure the victory

Was doing my daily reading and this jumped out at me, not sure I’ve read it before but it’s really kind of blunt and to the point.  Jesus did miracles in front of you yet you allowed him to be put to death (all part of God’s amazing plan) so that God could raise him from the dead proving once and for all that Satan is defeated, death is defeated because nothing can keep its hold on God.

Acts 22:22-24 – Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.  This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men put him to death by nailing him to the cross.  But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

Kind of makes you think that God’s plans are so intricate, so long thought out and so personal that any circumstance you find yourself in is something God can use and will use for his Kingdom, so don’t get deflated or upset if you think things are not going your way, it’s all part of God’s plan, talk to him!!

CREATIVITY

God sent Jesus to live among us, now Jesus was accredited by God to do miracles, events that we cannot explain in a human way, supernatural activity like healing the sick, making blind men see, in fact, if you read the bible you will know the disciples witnessed amazing acts, masterpieces of creativity like turning water into wine, enabling thousands to dine from five loaves and two fishes, making our deepest wishes kind of reality, this man healed many, brought people back from death, yet many who witnessed all this stuff didn’t get it, maybe they were just a bit slow on the uptake but they sure made a mistake, handing him to wicked men who put Jesus to death, but I see that whilst Jesus’s words fell on deaf ears it was God who’d planned it all those years, deliberate, painstaking planning, handing Jesus to the enemy in order to secure the victory, their evil intent used by God to cement his position as King of Kings, his suffering used to bring us freedom, Jesus carried every sin on him when he was nailed to that cross, every sin weighing down heavily, everything you ever did wrong or that you are still yet to do, Jesus carried that all for you, his love surpasses my understanding and here’s the thing, Jesus chose to follow it through, he chose to die for you, he chose to die for me, and I can’t see what I have ever done to deserve the attention of God’s son, to merit his gift of eternal life, to be worthy of his sacrifice, but he chose me, let me say that again slowly, God Chose Me, now that’s a message worth shouting about, check this out, I have a God who chose me, singled me out for his ministry, works tirelessly to set me on a heavenly trajectory, praise God he knows my story and yet he still loves me.

Out of difficulties grow miracles

Saw a post on Facebook today – out of difficulties grow miracles – based on 1 Peter 5:10.  Went on to read 1 Peter 5 and it’s a powerful message.

1 Peter 5:10 – And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast

Message Version – Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.

Four words stood out for me and reassures us of God’s hand in our lives

  • Restore – brings me back to his perfect and original design
  • Strong – strengthens me to overcome problems
  • Firm – make me stable and makes sure I won’t trip over any obstacle
  • Steadfast – makes me unmovable no matter what the devil does in my life

FREEDOM

I met God who painstakingly put me back together again, broken becomes beauty when God does the mending no longer fending for myself, casting all my anxieties on him because he cares and out of those difficulties grew miracles, I’m thankful for my struggle for without it I would never have found my strength in God, Jesus saw the wholeness of who I am, built on solid rock I now have a firm foundation and I have salvation, a new stability allowing me to overcome all hostility from the enemy, God owns my story and is leading me to eternal glory, restored, brought back to his perfect and original plan, his strength in me helping me to overcome all difficulties and he holds me fast, unmovable, fixed and anchored, no matter what the enemy throws at me I am free back on my feet and I can see the strength of his Spirit working in me.

Who was this King who endured such suffering for me?

So as we prepare for Christmas my mind got to thinking about when God sent his son to earth, how did that all come about and how did he feel about giving up his son for us, knowing how it would cause so much pain and suffering to him (death on a Cross)?  So there clearly was a lot of planning going on, Angels being sent to declare his birth, Zechariah and Mary receiving visits before that, choosing the right “earthly” parents, the star that led the Wise men …. But even more than that all the prophesies in the Old Testament told of Jesus coming to earth so God was in control and planning for our failures all along (light bulb moment).   So much to it really when you think about it (which I never have before).  Wow, all that to save us, all that despite the fact that God had given us so many opportunities to turn from sin, so many chances to get it right, he just knew that it wasn’t working.  How did that feel?  How easy would it be just to turn his back on us, yet he didn’t – now that is some kind of love, yep awesome love praise God.

WAITING FOR A MIRACLE

The world was waiting for a miracle, Angels dispatched, wise men informed, even the shepherds knew the form, a baby was coming, not just any baby, this one was coming to be with us, Emmanuel, God with us, God knew what we needed, saw that we had not heeded him from afar, he needed to be where we are, to infiltrate our minds, our hearts, to show us that despite our parting from his word, despite our trying to go it alone, he still loves us, he still cares and he came so that we could be saved, a baby who would grow up sinless, perfection that meant his resurrection from the dead had power, had impact, in fact as he bowed his head the sun stopped shining, darkness descended and the world was changed forever, who was this man, who was this King who endured such suffering for me, withstood mocking and pain, who rose again to bring me life?  His selfless and loving sacrifice showing us the way, he is the truth and the light, putting things right for those who turn to his light and now the world waits for another miracle…a pivotal moment in time, a time to reflect and consider whether you want to be part of this sadness, condone the madness of a world gone to seed or seek to be part of God’s family working to change history, we need you God, we need your love, your peace, your healing power, however you look at it, whatever you believe it is difficult to conceive that man can make any difference, man whose indifference has resulted in wars and famine, global warming an alarming escalation in poverty we need our heavenly Monarchy, come Lord Jesus, come again and reign on earth as in heaven, thank you for the love you have given us, the forgiveness you freely give, show us Lord how we can live lives that give you the Glory, Glory to the King of our Christmas story.

When my God steps in miracles happen

Hebrews 11:1 Faith in action

11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

As a church we are still praying for the young girl who is very ill in hospital and last night news came though that she is still struggling after 3 weeks , this prompted me to think about our faith and how important it is not to lose faith or start to doubt when things don’t happen in our timing, brought to mind the above verse from Hebrews and the following verse from 2 Peter, you know our timings are so different from God’s yet he is still so much in control (praise God) and that is an important lesson to me not just for this but for my life itself

2 Peter 3:8

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

FAITH

I have a God who can do great things, when my God steps in miracles happen, an everyday occurrence for those who realise that anything and everything is possible when God’s on your side, your faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen, so what does that mean?  For me, well I believe there is power in the name of Jesus and we have seen that when God speaks the wind and waves obey him, when God says don’t worry about tomorrow he’s already been there, he fed five thousand people from scraps and morsels, he’s not mere mortal, oh no he is God, he doesn’t just part the water, he walks on water, he doesn’t just heal, he raises from the dead, makes blind men see, he sent out his word and healed them and in your helplessness he hears your cry, so listen to the voice that promises hope, despite the whole world shouting no, where there’s faith there’s hope, expect a miracle from the Lord of history, his timing is a mystery so remember God works things out in his own time, don’t rely on your own understanding, he gives us peace, he asks us to trust that his plans are perfect and correct me if I misunderstood but his love never fails, he reigns over every situation and since I was captured by his Holy calling, the God of heaven lives in me, I am alive because he died, because he lives, I live, and I give him all the glory, I trust his name, I trust his ways, how can I lack faith when I see how much he loves me, how much he’s done for me, he never gives up, never lets go, so it is well with my soul, I trust in the Cross of my redeemer, I trust in his redeeming love, I trust the Lord who guides me, feeds me, walks beside me, who do I say he is? He is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity living in me, living for me, giving me hope, the ability to cope and endure all things, the knowledge and conviction that he holds all things seen and unseen in his hands, my God I trust in your eternal plans.
