Is my love sincere, the genuine thing

Romans 12:9-21 offers 18 Characteristics of Love and I was asking myself if I displayed these.  This was partially as a response to consider how we serve and support each other at Church.  I think we need to see more love in action and less love in theory.

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”  21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good

Love in action, my reaction is to ask myself, is my love sincere, the genuine thing,  do I hate evil and love good, am I devoted to my brothers and sisters, honouring others and not myself, selfless not selfish, am I fervent for God, is my love heartfelt, impassioned, do I serve the Lord with a smile, going the extra mile, full of joy, full of hope, am I patient in times when I struggle to cope, am I faithful in prayer, do I share all I have with those in need, do I practice outrageous hospitality, do I bless those who offend me heaping coals on their head, do I rejoice with those who rejoice, participating in their celebrations, do I mourn with those who mourn, do I live in harmony with those around me, am I humble or conceited, am I influenced by rank or position or do I see all as equal?  Love in action, seeking to be transformed from glory to glory, love in action, not love in theory

Double portions begging to be claimed

Sometimes God asks us to do things that seem tough or difficult or a bit out of left field.  In my reading today I was thinking about Ananias who was asked to go to meet Saul and to lay hands on him.  How random that must have seemed after all the persecution coming from Saul, yet Ananias went. It’s interesting though that he did question God first, it shows that God recognises and accepts our human frailties and gives us space to come to terms with his calling on our lives without reproach.

2 Corinthians 12:9 – But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

It has been said that God gives the hardest battles to his strongest soldiers, sometimes I don’t feel that strong but you know there’s part of me that knows my weakness is perfected in his strength, you need to get on God’s wavelength to understand the plans he has, they are no ordinary plans, you could not predict the stuff he might ask you to do, but you do know he will remove all the mountains and make a way in the wilderness if he’s asked you to do it, I guess he’s asking us to show some faith, to step out and step up, to claim the cup that overflows with blessings, double portions begging to be claimed when we step out in Jesus name, and sometimes that small voice of doubt rises and in private I might say God why me, what can I give to this situation, surely you’ve someone a little less broken, someone more experienced, more holy, more suited, but God, well his choice cannot be disputed he sees when we’re rooted in his love, absorbed in his word, stirred up and ready to serve, he sees our hearts and knows our minds we have no fear of condemnation as we step out in faith and obey him.

You should try juggling my commitments

Read an interesting comment in my daily reading today – when we become Christians we are called to turn … serve … wait …’

So turn to God, serve him with all our hearts and then wait for him to lead us in the paths he has for us.  Turning to God also means turning away from our past and that can mean past behaviours, attitudes and beliefs.  I believe God gradually leads us away from things that are not good for us, we become a new creation and that’s when the work starts.  Even if you have been a Christian many years God may still be asking you to turn from something, to serve him in a specific way or just to wait on him to see what it is he has for you.

  • Matthew 22:37 – Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
  • Colossians 3:23 – Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

Called out, stop…. do you hear his voice?  Called from the mundane to proclaim God’s Kingdom, called from nothing to become God’s own special one, called from death to life; so what of your sacrifice, what part of you are you giving to God, what gift are you giving back to him, do you love him with all your heart or is there a part reserved for other interests, have you given him all your soul (absolutely everything) or are you waiting to see if you get a better offer and have you proffered all of your mind to the Lord, have you relinquished control and asked God to make you whole?  To serve or not to serve, do you reserve your time for earthly pleasures, are you storing up treasures here on earth or are you seeking ways to serve, loving your neighbour, imitating your Saviour, is your behaviour that of a Christian, do you stop and listen or hurry on by, do you feel compassion or some kind of irrational annoyance when jobs need doing, are you moving too fast on the highway of life to notice those struggling with fear or strife, those going without their daily bread, those without a roof over their head, when someone says I’m struggling is your immediate thought you should try juggling my commitments, are you resistant to change or do you get it, Jesus exchanged your sin for life eternal and this life is not a rehearsal and you have God’s love at your disposal, the language of God is universal, love one another as he has loved us, Jesus calls us to work for him, to further his Kingdom, so as you turn to him don’t forget to serve him with all your heart, soul and mind and you will find a reward here on earth as well as in heaven, the reward of seeing lives changed and forgiven, the reward of using all the gifts God put in you, the reward of loving like Jesus loves you.

Restoration of God’s nation, tribal revival

Was having some quiet time with God and the following words came into my head – Restoration and Revival.  Got me to thinking about God’s plans and how a lot of what I am reading about is showing all the signs of a major revival to come, restoration of the church and God’s Kingdom here in earth.

Jeremiah 30: 1-3 -The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. For behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it.”

Restoration of God’s nation, tribal revival, Israel rises up once more, the new Jerusalem, a mighty army mobilised for action gaining traction, bodies healed, hearts mended, love extended to all who call on the name of Jesus the Lamb who heals us, he feels our every heartbeat, loves us completely, loves us uniquely, pours out blessings with power and strength, calls on us to repent, turn away from the dark, walk into the light, turn away from wrong and do what is right, obedience equals forgiveness, obedience the key to our witness, a fitness to serve, truth and love from above, become a vessel for his love, love as he first loved us, love as Jesus loved, seek out the hurting, the sick and the poor, open the door and let prisoners walk free, open eyes so the blind can see, be everything God chose you to be, walk freely with God as your guide, he walks beside you just take a look, he is the rock on which to build your story, he is the anchor that holds you firm, a God who affirms your commitment, looks on you with excitement as you move mountains with your mustard seed, as you trust, obey as you truly believe.

I find enrichment and blessing from dwelling with my God

My daily readings have turned to the build up to the Easter story and I was taken today by this verse in Mark:

Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’

When people think about God do they really think about the service, the fact that Jesus spent his life on earth serving us and then in a totally selfless act gave his life for us?  When I think about how Jesus served it makes me more eager to serve him, to do it all for him, to give up ambition or plans that are purely selfish and to seek to work for him, and I know as the bible tells us that through this my life will be enriched.

Philippians 2:3-7, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”

Proverbs 11:25, “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”

The son of God came to earth to serve.  Jesus came to serve us, to give his life for us, kind of like a ransom, a payment for all our sin which we have no chance of repaying alone, I’m saying that we needed him and he gave up everything, so why am I grumbling about my life, Jesus was blameless and innocent and came to save this crooked and twisted generation whose lives revolve around personal ambition, greedy people living conceited lives, open your eyes, be humble, stop arguing saying there is no harm in sin, sin surrounds us and the only escape is in the act of our maker who took on the weight of the world’s sin, one man’s offering saving so many, his attitude reflected in the beatitudes, regard each other as more important than you, take on the mind of Christ, shine your light like the stars in the sky, It’s not about me and what I want to be, taking on Christ’s character I forget what’s behind and seek to serve others, become an encourager and as I refresh others I receive refreshment from the streams of living water that God provides his sons and daughters, I find enrichment and blessing from dwelling with my God and Saviour, my behaviour conforming more to a pattern of Holy living, giving of myself, selfless living the key to emptying me of me, being filled with a love that satisfies, an attitude that defies human understanding, a life of selfless abandonment, serving my Saviour a life of content.

Servanthood, you are mine

All the gifts God has given us are to be used for his glory, even those we may think are not that important, havebeen reflecting on servanthood this morning

1 Peter 4:10 – Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms

1 Timothy 4:4 – For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

I have called you by name, you are mine so don’t live an ordinary life you serve an extraordinary God, adventures await, don’t be lazy, work hard, serve your God enthusiastically, live large, be bold, demonstrate unprecedented obedience throughout your life’s duration, be urgent to reach your generation for we have a job to reach the nations including our friends and relations and if I were to offer my interpretation of what God’s doing for me, he called me, is equipping and preparing me, encouraging me to serve him daily and God wants me to be brave enough to live creatively using the talents and gifts that he gave me, I am blessed, favoured and I serve a God who will never give up on me, I worship a God who cannot be exaggerated for he is the greatest, celebrated King of King and Lord of all nations and one day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess him King of Glory, now how can you fail to believe in his love for you, how can you neglect the gifts he’s given you, may he give you a servant’s heart so you can serve like Jesus aligning your plans with God’s purpose, always believe in God, seek his guidance, let’s face it there are some questions even Google can’t answer so ask God what he wants you to do, recognise the gifts he’s given to you, hold your nerve and remember he is a Mighty God that we serve, be ready and willing to do his bidding, adjust your attitude to one of servanthood, desire to do all that is good to spread God’s word and be spurred on to serve in all situations, be bold, step forward and meet God’s expectations.

My trust prayer…

Opened the ladies meeting with this prayer last night, just wanted to Blog it so I kept a copy was a meeting about culture of honour which is such a great concept and last night was about trust, such an interesting debate from all who attended and really opened my eyes..

Hey God, we lift our hearts in praise to you, we worship and adore you and thank you for all that you do for us, how you fill us with your love, how you bless us every day  and how you listen as we pray, as we come here tonight to talk about trust, help us truly seek out the truth in our hearts, be open and honest and not depart from the culture of honour you seek to build, may we be filled with your Spirit as we learn, have concern for each other’s feelings especially when revealing our concerns or area of weakness and Jesus may we seek to be supportive, drive out any suspicion and wariness and bless our time together so that whatever happens in this place we will know your face is turned towards us, feel your love radiate among us and leave here tonight with a new perspective that makes us more effective in our walk with you, that helps us in our prayer, affirmation of each other and heavenly Father may we be hungry to serve you and every one of your children, and as women of God create a trusting culture fuelled by your scripture which draws us closer to you and closer to each other, thank you God for making us richer through this time spent with you and thank you for the privilege of spending this evening with you   AMEN
