Don’t sit there and say it’s someone else’s battle

Was struck by two things this morning.  Firstly, a social media post from The Passion Translation, which was based on 1 Timothy 6:11-13, entitled I hear his thunder, “I am calling the men back to me” and secondly my daily reading from Joel 3:

Joel 3:9-11 – Say to the nations: “Get ready for war! Be eager to fight. Line up for battle and prepare to attack. Make swords out of ploughs and spears out of garden tools. Strengthen every weakling.” Hurry, all you nations! Come quickly. Ask the Lord to bring his warriors along

The theme of both was similar, we are called to God’s army, we are called to arise and follow God, to claim the victory.  This is a war and we need to be ready to serve under God.  The Joel reading made me sit up and take notice as it states the opposite of Isaiah 2:4 which promises us a future where we will make ploughs from our swords and we will never war amongst ourselves again.  It’s the hope, the future joy that we are fighting for, the day of victory when all will be free.

War, a war to end all wars, be ready, be eager to fight, line up for battle and prepare to attack, don’t be settled in your ways, don’t sit there and say it’s someone else’s battle, don’t allow the shackles to be reapplied, Satan is real and Satan tells lies, do you hear God’s thunder?  Do you hear God’s call?  That call not for some, that call is for all, arise, put on your armour, don’t risk becoming a foreigner in your own land, stand up, stand tall, be prepared with your all, that’s what God desires, a nation of people with fire burning inside, a tribe of warriors, followers with no fear of the barriers strewn in their way, victorious in attitude, committed in pursuing the truth, standing up for Jesus, claiming his promise of triumph and victory, overthrowing the enemy, marching together into his land of plenty.

Truth is he doesn’t need your support

Have you noticed how often you read a passage in the Bible and something jumps out at you as if you’ve never seen it before?  Today I was reading about the arrest of Jesus and how he tells one of his companions to put away his sword..

Matthew 26:53 – Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

That message links to a message I was watching in a video of Rick Warren teaching which illustrates how we often try and fight the battles for God instead of allowing him to fight them for us.  God can call on legions of armies to fight the battles, God is able to do anything and everything he wants to do, the battle is his – relax.

  • Psalm 56:3 – When I am afraid, I put my trust in you
  • 2 Chronicles 20:15 -He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

From worry to worship, battles become blessings, everyone who lives in Jesus shall be persecuted, but we don’t live a secluded life, we are not alone in the fight, it is not right to be afraid or discouraged, instead be encouraged for the enemy is damaged, we have the advantage, we face a defeated enemy, God’s army at our disposal, and not being boastful but even Jesus spoke of the mighty army that surrounds us, be victorious, be confident as you approach the throne of Grace, boldly make your petitions known, believe that your God has already heard your cry, he has his eye on your situation, he fights your corner so raise your expectations, increase your faith, watch mountains moving as God moves in to your circumstances, relax as God exchanges beauty for ashes, let God fight this, the truth is he doesn’t need your support, he is King of Kings and he is Lord of Lords.

He breaks down city walls, smashes padlocks and kicks down doors

I have just got through Isaiah on my read the bible in 90 days challenge, wow some fantastic messages from God in Isaiah.  I have highlighted 3 verses below that really excite me in a way that says, what an awesome God we serve, if he is for me who or what can be against me?!

  • Isaiah 31:4 – This is what the LORD says to me: “As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey— and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamour— so the LORD Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights
  • Isaiah 45:2 – I will go before you and will level the mountains ; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron
  • Isaiah 51:15 – For I am the LORD your God, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the LORD Almighty is his name.

My God goes before me, clearing and paving the road, stopping the flow of the river if I need to cross over, he breaks down city walls, smashes padlocks and kicks down doors, the Lion roars as he goes before me, the Lord of heaven’s armies leads me onwards and upwards so that I can be strong and courageous, I am his pride, his joy, he destroys my enemies, God fights for me, every chain shattered at my feet, my heartbeat calmed, no longer afraid or alarmed cos my God’s got this, my God fights for me, battles hidden from my sight, battles of light against the darkness, mighty warrior King of Kings the Lord Almighty is his name.

Knock it outta the park as you ask for mountains to be shifted

Been on my mind about being confident in prayer.  If we have faith as small as a mustard seed we can move mountains yet time and time again I find myself asking small not big, saying stuff like “if it’s your will” instead of “God I need you to do this.”  In God’s word it says he can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, so why not imagine big results and be wowed with massive results?  We pray with a human mind asking for what is logical to us or possible for our understanding but God is not logical and he is not fettered by human understanding so our prayers can be confident, bold and forthright.

  • Micah 7:7 -But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me.
  • Jeremiah 17:7 – But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

Walk like Goliath but fight like David, walk tall you are a child that God created, tackle in faith don’t tiptoe in fear, God had called you here, called you into this battle, his fight against evil so be strong and let him lead you, be faithful to ask and believe in his promise, he will demolish the enemy, broken hearts will be mended, beauty will rise from the ashes, our God is a God of second chances, as God bends down to listen and you open your mouth to pray will you take a chance today, once in a while just blow your mind don’t be confined to the same old prayers the same old layers of please and thank you, knock it outta the park as you ask for mountains to be shifted, bondage to be lifted, chains to be broken and as God’s word is spoken in situations that once seemed impossible God is unstoppable, his power phenomenal, he is the source of my confidence so I stand bold and confident in his presence and ask for him to do immeasurably more than I could ever imagine, equip me, inspire me as I stand in your power, I look to the Lord my tower, my rock, I stop asking small and start asking for him to rock this world, working around the clock 24/7 to bring a little piece of heaven to earth, blessed as I unearth the true power of prayer, I watch in hope, I wait in peace, I trust completely I ask freely.

Emit the brightness that’s within as you run into battle

I was reading a really interesting article yesterday about how we cope when under attack from the enemy.  Remembering that the enemy attacks when he is worried about our work for God or even our potential to work for God it is a compliment in many ways when we are attacked because Satan can see the progress we are making for God.  However it is important that we work with God to counter these attacks and to remain strong, only through being grounded in God’s truth and through receiving the help of the Spirit can we overcome, and believe me we will overcome because our God has already won the battle, the enemy is defeated.

John 16:13-15 – But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.  All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.’

John 6:39-40 –  And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

I took the inspiration for the following from the article I was reading:

Protect yourself with me, keep so close to my word that when darkness comes the light penetrates the darkness and you remember me, bind the truth to your heart, my word always on your tongue and when attacks come remember that I am bigger, my plans are better, and the battle is mine, never forget that I have already won, the battle done long ago and even though you walk through this time of trial I walk beside you every dark and arduous mile, you may not see me but I am there, follow my truth, my word, keep it in front of you at all times, protect yourself with me for the battle is not against humanity but against the rulers of the dark world, shroud yourself in my righteousness, emit the brightness that’s within as you run into battle, run as fast as your feet can carry you, building on my name, sharing my love, telling my story and sharing my glory, run and fight, do not be afraid, let your shield be faith as you stand behind the God of the universe, no need to fear or be afraid, fight the fight of a brave warrior, a soldier of the living God, fight for a cause that’s worth your sacrifice for your life here is but fleeting, fight for me, look to me, know I am with you, surrounding you, living in you, fight bravely for I your God am with you, the truth surrounds you, my love protects you, my word instructs you, speak of what you hear from me, receive what I make known, own my love, own my story, march with passion to claim my Glory.

Don’t underestimate the magnitude with which God pursues the enemy

I never cease to be amazed, awe-struck really at what God does for us, and I know I shouldn’t because he tells us he can do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”.  So I have been reading Joshua and I had not read this passage before (sometimes find the Old Testament passages hard going), here we are another war, another power struggle but God has promised that he had given the enemy into Joshua’s hand.  So when the fight starts Joshua asked for the sun to stand still and the moon to stop

  • Joshua 10:12-13 – He said, “Sun, stand still over Gibeon. Moon, stand still over the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still. The moon stopped. They didn’t move again until the nation won the battle over its enemies.

Not only does God stop the sun in the sky in this battle but he also sent giant hailstones that kill many of the retreating soldiers, he provides all the support required for Joshua to be victorious against the enemy.

What does that tell me?  God keeps his promises, he protects and shields us, he will not let us be overcome and he is able to literally move mountains or stop the sun in the sky if it serves his purpose, he will provide me with all the support I need to overcome my enemy.  AWESOME

  • Romans 8:31 – What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
  • Romans 8:37 – No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

A mighty battle rages, God engaged in a fight for life, don’t ever underestimate the magnitude with which he pursues the enemy, God protecting and shielding, building strongholds, we are more than conquerors through him who loves us, the sun and the moon bow down to our God, they are under his command, God stopped the moon and sun so we could gain a flavour of our Creator’s power, we are nothing without Jesus, if he departs from us we are lost, but God has promised us he will never leave us or forsake us, if he is for us who can be against us, for our battle as we know is not against flesh and blood but the dark forces of the spiritual realm, with God at the helm we are safe, secure in the knowledge that he’s freed us from bondage, our chains are broken and we are soaking in the Spirit’s power, fire of God surrounds us, protects and binds us with the heavenly forces, God reinforces our combined resources as we stand in unity against the enemy, Spirit of God living in me, uplift, empower and strengthen me, open my eyes to your love for me, for I know you’ll never stop fighting for me.

I fight with my hand fused to the sword

I read an interesting message from Lisa Bevere today where she revealed God’s message to her that “far too many Christians wield only pieces and fragments of His Word—no longer lifting God’s Word as a whole” and she equated this to warriors lifting broken swords in battle.

I found that a great illustration of the importance of immersing myself in God’s word and also the danger of quoting snippets of the word out of context.  To know the word is surely to know God, to walk with him and to be fully equipped to do his work and fight the spiritual battle against the enemy.

  • Hebrews 4:12 -For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
  • Colossians 1:28 – He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ
  • 1 Timothy 6:12 – Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses
  • 2 Samuel 7:3 – Nathan replied to the king, ‘Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you
  • Jeremiah 6:16 – Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

I fight with my hand fused to the sword, I fight with God’s complete word, I learn, I grow, I yearn to know God’s very will.

I am still, I read his word, I learn and as I stand at each and every crossroads I look and ask, I proclaim God’s word over my life, over every choice, I seek and I find.

God fills my mind with wisdom, as I proclaim his name he makes the way clear for me, picking up my sword I am ready to fight, living in joy, actively following the right road, absorbing his every word, I find rest for my soul.
