Would I say this in front of you?

Worship is not a single act, it is a continuous act.  It is how I live my life, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day.  Just reminded of how great an opportunity that is to give God the glory in everything I do and say.

  • Psalms 29:2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendour of holiness.
  • Psalms 95:6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!
  • Psalms 99:5 Exalt the LORD our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!

Expressing my deep love for you, devotion to you God, my life a sacrifice, Whatever I do let it be for you, whatever I say, may it be pleasing to you, would I say it in front of you?  If I want to be worshipful in all of my actions I have to think would this be my reaction if Jesus was here standing by my side, would I open my mouth so wide and say these words if the risen Lord was in the room, would I do this if Jesus was here, would I watch this programme, read this book, would I post that comment, indulge in gossip, would I call her that name, to my shame there are times when my actions are not what I would want God to see, sometimes there’s less of God and more of me in the way I live, truthfully there are times I should forgive that little bit quicker, bite my tongue and not be so critical, times I should listen and give more of me and for that Lord I say please forgive me, let my life be a light, a beacon of hope, let my worship be searching, let it be demanding, challenging me to think of your sacrifice for me and comprehending that I can be worshipful in different ways, in all my ways acknowledging you, in all my ways being true to you, my life an act of worship at your footstool.

Choose joy, rejoice and be glad

I wasn’t sure what to blog on today, I know it’s going to be a tough day as I am going to see my Dad, who is really suffering with bone cancer.  He’s not in a good place right now and as I was thinking about my Blog this verse came to me.

Romans 8:18 – I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us

It’s easy to read and to agree in principle, but when we are suffering, really suffering pain and discomfort this must be a hard verse to fully comprehend.  But, we do have a glorious hope, we do know that in the future we will be renewed in Christ.  No more pain, no more tears, no more suffering and that has got to be enough to see us through.  Thank you God that we have that hope, without it our suffering would truly be unbearable.

Joy, delight, jubilation, exultation, exhilaration await me,  choose joy, rejoice and be glad, worship and praise through the darkest days, this pain, this dark time not worth your breath for with death the pain will go, with death we will know the greatest joy as we are transformed, as we claim our space in heavenly places amongst the many faces of those who’ve cheered us on the way we will stand and claim the glory, our story never meant to be just this fraction of time, for this is just a fragment of the bigger picture, a snippet, hesitate and you will miss it, our lives eternal but our bodies are mortal, let’s face it it’s normal that they should rot and decay, this life transient, temporary, a fragment of time, a season, no reason to be so low, God tells us where it is we will go when our time here is done, his Son saw to it that we would have a better future, perfection ensured we wouldn’t lose out, have no doubt, the devil is a defeated foe it’s just his pride that makes him so determined to steal your joy, don’t give in, don’t allow him to destroy your peace, praise God throughout, worship at his feet, pray and praise without ceasing, let your worship be unending.

Tap into the power of the miraculous

Worship, intentional activity to glorify one name, the name of Jesus.  We are designed to worship, made for that purpose, on purpose.  Words that rang true as I listened to Darlene Zschech on stage a couple of nights ago.

Romans 12:1 – Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship

Sometimes we make worship all about the music, but it’s not about that.  We can worship through our lives, our behaviours, our acts of kindness, our songs, our prayers, our silence and through worship we can walk in the power of the miraculous every single day.

Intentionality, in reality that means that I choose to worship God, I choose to stop, to take time out, to join in the one true sound of worship, my body a habitation for God, my body made for the purpose of worship, to serve and to give God the glory, worship is not about my words, it’s how I use my life, my talents, my gifts, how I intentionally lift them up to God, my worship an act of adoration, activating heaven, my worship demands that the noise of this world shuts up,  I am so desperate for God’s presence I reach out to touch the hem of his garment, I sing, but not a lament, a song of praise, I choose praise, I choose to raise my hands in the air, I know that he hears my cry and even when I am at my lowest the answer is worship, when I am in despair the answer is worship, when the tears fall, the answer is worship, give God the glory as he works in your story, give God the praise and he will raise you above your circumstances, dance and sing in his presence and heaven will invade your earth, join in the melody, work together in harmony, tap into the power of the miraculous, let his name be ever on your lips, Jesus my Jesus

A repository of beauty, a cache of treasure all given for our pleasure

Sundays are an amazing day for me, I love to worship, I love to meet with God and I love to rest and relax on my only day off work.  Today I went on the most beautiful walk, through an area I hadn’t visited for a long time.  The beauty of this part of Derbyshire is amazing and we were blessed to see so much wildlife on the way round. I truly felt the words of this Psalm were for me today:

Psalm 118:24 – This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

And on the seventh day God rested, he looked at all he had made and it was more than good, he must have stood in heaven looking down and smiled at his design, time after time he must stop in awe and wonder at the stunning magnificence of his creation, the interpretation of his majesty, the reflection of his glory, a repository of beauty, a cache of treasure all given for our pleasure, all gifted to us, an indication of all that awaits us in heaven, the beauty of creation stirs our imaginations to a crescendo of anticipation for if today is the day the Lord has made for us here on earth how much better the days that await us in heaven and that brings praise to my lips and worship to my heart, this truly is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it, celebrating God’s love reflected in his gifts, anticipating the day he comes again to lift me high to his right hand, to take me to his promised land

Look he is coming with the clouds, every eye will see him

Acts 1:   9-11 – After Jesus had said this and while they were watching, he was taken up into a cloud. They could not see him, but as he went up, they kept looking up into the sky. Suddenly two men dressed in white clothes were standing there beside them. They said, “Why are you men from Galilee standing here and looking up into the sky? Jesus has been taken to heaven. But he will come back in the same way that you have seen him go.”

Do you ever gaze up at the sky as you pray?  I do this quite often as I use my dog walking time as a special time of talking to God.  I often look up at the sky, that’s where I imagine God to be, somewhere beyond the clouds, I lift my arms skyward in praise, I chat, sing, shout and praise my God who’s beyond the sky that I can see.

How awesome to think that the disciples witnessed Jesus returning to heaven, but even better than that, one day he will return in the same way.

No wonder I keep looking to the sky, in hope and confidence that Jesus will return again soon, come Lord Jesus.

Just take a minute, go outside and look up at the sky, close your eyes and visualise Jesus ascending into heaven, this wasn’t his home just like it’s not mine, a temporary place to rest my head, Jesus himself said whoever believes in me will have eternal life, I know this human body is a makeshift  shelter for my soul and when God’s ready he’ll call me home to a world I’ve never known, yet long to see, a place of love and peace, a place where I will see Jesus face to face, he overcame this world before returning to his Father and just like David said, I’d rather spend one day in his courts than a thousand elsewhere, so as I gaze into the sky I wonder when he will return, when will his Kingdom come to earth, when will every knee bow and how will that happen, what will it sound like when we worship with passion, millions of voices praising our Saviour, all those who have found his favour rejoicing with fervour, what will it feel like to finally be with Jesus, to be home, never again to be alone, no more tears, no more pain, new bodies with no constraints, complaints a thing of the past as we sit at the feet of the Lamb at last, I can only imagine the joy we will feel when we look at the sky and see Jesus returning, the days of yearning finally over, look he is coming with the clouds, every eye will see him even those who pierced him, look Jesus is coming again, with all the Saints on earth to reign

Give it some child of God swagger

When we remember and celebrate the power of God, difficult circumstances are reduced in scale.  When we forget his power, we allow Satan to overwhelm us and our issues becoming bigger than our God.  We must continually praise and worship God whatever our circumstances.

Psalm 27: 13-14 – remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord

Refuse to let the world corrupt you, don’t let Satan interrupt you with idle thoughts, and crushing fears, remember God is near, Jehovah Shammah, the Lord is present, enter his presence with praise and he will enter your life with power, I would have lost heart if I had not believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, stay patient, wait on the Lord and trust your journey, be of good courage, his mercies are new every morning, he has made everything beautiful in its time, he looks for the treasure in the darkness, so in your darkness, stop, listen, the still small voice of God will speak to you, and as you wait, praise, give thanks, even in the hardest of circumstances, pray without ceasing, keep on believing, celebrate his power, allow him to be your tower of strength, your fortress, he takes the worries and the issues of those who submit to him,  suddenly the mountains shrink before our eyes , with God on your side you cannot fail, whatever your troubles he’s nailed them, no longer condemned shake off your baggage and give it some “I’m a child of God” swagger.

I will praise you from here to eternity

I was reading Psalm 63 today.  Because God’s kindness is better than life, my lips will praise him.  What a great lesson for us all.  Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in life and forget to praise God, yet thinking of all the things he has done for me there is no way I should ever forget the importance of praise.

I wrote my version of the Psalm below:

Yes, you are my God and that brings praise to my lips, I worship you with songs and poems, with prayers of devotion, there is an ache in my heart, a place reserved for you to fill and I long for you, without you it’s like I am in a scorching desert devoid of water, scanning the horizon for an oasis until I see a stream of living water reflecting your power and your glory seen only in that place of sanctuary, your love means more than life to me and I praise you relentlessly, I will praise you from here to eternity, singing joyfully as one excitedly awaiting their invitation to the banqueting table, I am unable to sleep without thinking of you, in the silence of the night I speak to you, reflecting on your sheltering arms, knowing that I’m safe from harm as I sing happy songs of adoration, I lay my foundations close to you, knowing that it’s you who supports me, you are my tower of strength, shielding me from those who would seek to drown out my praise, to stop me from making a noise for you Lord, you lift up your sword and protect me from evil, because of your love I celebrate, one of your faithful followers, one of the Lord’s own warriors, protected from lies and deceit, reprieved because of my beliefs.
