God will bless those who honour him

Got to be honest reading through Chronicles was quite hard work.  However when I looked back at the verses that I had noted as standing out for me I have got some great snippets from God from reading Chronicles.  It just goes to show all the Bible is important for teaching and encouraging us and it’s so worth making an effort to read the more obscure books.

  • 1 Chronicles 22:13 – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged
  • 1 Chronicles 22:19 – Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God.
  • 1 Chronicles 29:11-13 – Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.  Wealth and honour come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.  Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name
  • 2 Chronicles 7:14 – if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
  • 2 Chronicles 15:7 – But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”
  • 2 Chronicles 16:9 – For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
  • 2 Chronicles 20:21 – After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendour of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever”.

This is how I summarise Chronicles (which I appreciate is very different from how others do!) but really as 2 books that catalogue Kings who turn away from God time and time again and then new Kings who turn back to God I think the message is quite apt, God will bless those who honour him.

Give thanks to the Lord for his love endures forever, praise him for the splendour of his holiness, in your brokenness be strong and courageous do not be afraid for God has said if my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray, truly seek my face and turn from their wicked ways he will hear us from heaven, forgive us our trespasses and heal our land, he stands firm in his promise, devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God who is great and powerful, his is the power and the glory, majesty and splendour, forever and ever, everything in heaven and earth belongs to our God, he is exalted head over us, wealth and honour he bestows on us, he rules over all lands, in his hands are strength and power to exalt, he gives us our strength, so be strong and never give up for your work will be rewarded, for the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen all who are fully committed, driven witnesses of his love, sing praise to the Lord in heaven above

In reality God’s already fixing the issues

Even before I open my mouth in prayer God has heard me.  Even before I ask he is answering my prayers.

Isaiah 65:24: – Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.

I think for me this verse is the reason why I should pray.  Yes God has already set the ball rolling in answering our prayers because he knows we are going to pray, he has put the desire and the will in us to want to get involved, to intercede and he sees how we are changing as we grow in our walk with him.  God sees that we long to reflect him more, we long for change, long for God’s will to be done and that’s why we should pray even more.  I feel like when I pray I really connect with God and that’s how I will become more like him, more “holy” if you like, and when my prayers are fervent am I not reflecting God’s love for each and every situation and walking hand in hand with him?

God’s reminder for us, before you even call out his name he will answer and while you are still engaging in prayer he has heard your words, he knows, and shows compassion in listening when in reality he’s already fixing the issues, resolving the problems, providing solutions, we call, he answers, our transformation begins in his presence, in essence we need to spend time on our knees to become connected to our resurrected Saviour, changing habits and behaviours so prayer becomes multi-layered, fervent cries of a loyal servant connecting with their Lord and Master, so pray in confidence knowing that God hears every word and is already in action, reacting to our interaction with love and compassion.

Why am I surprised when God provides?

Over the last couple of days I have been aware of a number of prayers being answered, some for others and one in particular for me.  It has made me think more about putting total faith in God, my prayer has to do with money worries relating to my business but the more I put it into God’s hands and stop worrying about it, the more he seems to provide for me and today when I received some business that was really needed I just felt my heart singing “How Great is our God”.  I know I need to keep trusting and putting 100% faith in God, not falling back to worry and trying to do it my way, God is in control and for that my heart really does sing out.

  • Luke 1:45 – Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfil his promises to her!
  • John 8:12 – 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’
  • Matthew 10:31 – So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows
  • Matthew 6:34 – Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own

I am blessed when I believe, when I finally put away all doubt and let God sort things out, why am I surprised when God provides, why do I not trust all to him, move out of the dim, grey areas of my fears into the light of the world, I will not be afraid and as I watch the birds of the air feeding abundantly from nature’s storehouse I find it ridiculous that I would ever doubt my Father in heaven, who created me to enjoy life and for him to enjoy me, I praise you God ecstatically, you provide for me and the more I put my faith in you it seems the more you do to bring me up, my cup overflows in every sense, I am content I will not worry about tomorrow, I will not tiptoe through each day fearing what will come my way, I am worth more than many sparrows, your thoughts for me exceed the grains of sand on every beach, your love for me overreaches any emotion I have ever experienced, people say your ways are mysterious but to me they are just full of love, it’s like a love I’ve never known and I am blown away every time I receive an answer to prayer, every time I realise yet again how much you care, you are there, listening to me and God that means so much to me, to know that you see me, hear me and you care for me, your promises are fulfilled and for that God I am thrilled.

God’s promises intended to be kept

Luke 1:45 – Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfil his promises to her!’

Been reading Genesis 15 today as part of my daily reading and really it’s all about God’s promise to Abraham.  Yesterday I was watching a video of Priscilla Shirer, “rehearse who you are in Christ” which just emphasised so many of God’s promises to us and who I can be because of those promises.

I used to have a real issue with promises, as a child I naively used to ask my parents every night to promise not to fight, “I promise” they would say, later on I would be woken up to the sound of them fighting.  Promises meant so little to me, yet I kept going back and asking them to promise in the vain hope that one day they would mean it.  So what’s a promise?  In the past to me it was empty, hollow,  but something I sincerely desired to be kept, almost like I would keep going back for more and more because in my heart I knew that a promise should mean something, a promise should be kept, yet I was let down time and time again.

But now, since knowing God for a year I have recognised that a promise from God is something to be believed, trusted and cherished.  God does not make empty promises, God does not let me down, God is truth and love, God has already fulfilled many promises to me and I know his commitment to me is rock solid, based on truth and light.

Here are just 4 verses that help me to see God’s promises at work in my life

Beating addictionPsalm 50:15 – and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honour me.’

Baptism of Holy SpiritJohn 14:13-16 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. ‘If you love me, keep my commands and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you for ever

Strength to do God’s Will – Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.’

Losing Shame – Psalm 34:5 – Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

Blessed because I now believe

Blessed, because I receive your promises and know they are true

Blessed, because I know you can, but more than this I know you do

You promise, I believe

God makes a promise and never breaks it

He will never leave me nor forsake me

God’s promises intended to be kept

They never expire, never lapse

His promises shine on my problems

His promises provide the solution

God does not forget his promises

The rainbow a symbol of his pledge

His covenant fulfilled

My life filled with truth and light

Promises that see me through the night into a new dawn

Promises that have depth and meaning

I am leaning on all God’s promises

I am claiming all his words of victory

And I am blessed for I believe

God’s promises to me, more than a rainbow filled sky

God has made so many promises to us in his word, and he keeps every single one of them.  I was thinking about this today, like when I make a promise, I don’t always keep it or if I do I might half keep it or do it half-heartedly, yet God isn’t like that he promises us such fantastic and great things and then he delivers.  He does this cos he loves me and today I am claiming those promises and I am making a giant step forwards in my life, the past is history….. forgiveness required, moving forward required and yes that is my Lent promise to me today, I am giving up looking backwards and concentrating solely on looking forwards…

These promises are just some that mean so much to me..

Ezekiel 36:26- I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws

Romans 8: 1-2 – Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!

Psalm 34:7 – The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them

Psalm 91:14-15 -For the Lord says, “Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will make him great because he trusts in my name. When he calls on me, I will answer; I will be with him in trouble and rescue him and honour him

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Isaiah 41:10 – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

GOD’S PROMISES

God’s promises to me, more than a rainbow filled sky, I fly like an eagle soaring above the storms receiving God’s promises, giving myself permission to accept his covenant of love, to heal and progress, no longer digressing, no longer diverted by mistakes of the past, no longer clinging to my failures for fear of exposure, releasing my anxiety to the Lord and saying once and for all there is no condemnation, my past just a story, history, it’s done, it is finished and the inspired word of God is my defence against enemy lies, temptation surrounds but so does God, his word a light to my path, he has taken my stony, stubborn heart, instead of a rock he’s given me a gem, my human heart replaced by the immortal heart of Christ, the light of the world who guards me as I honour him, as I cry out his name he rescues me from danger, his armies are by my side, no mountain too high, no ocean too wide, and the Lord himself watches over me, God has a firm grip and will never let go carrying me through every storm, upholding me with his righteous right hand and I stand up to the enemy, resist his lies, submit my life to God who protects and sustains me, he makes the enemy flee from my presence, I have found acceptance, a place where I can be present with no fear of condemnation, no anxious thoughts, no shame or blame, no longer chasing rainbows, not broken but beautiful, acceptable in God’s sight, picking up the pieces and making them right.

Now GO, I will help you speak and will teach you what to say

Struck me today God wants us to share his word and too often we don’t for fear of looking silly, not knowing what to say, being judged, but why wouldn’t we want to tell everyone we meet about the saving power and love of Jesus?

Was looking at Exodus 4:12 – Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

So God has already promised that he will help us speak and teach us what to say, awesome, so through reading the Bible every day and praying to God I really feel like he is teaching me and I am much better equipped to speak although SO much more to learn (love it God’s word is so full of great and relevant messages)

Now GO, I will help you speak and will teach you what to say, don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything, tell God what you need, he is great indeed and don’t be ashamed of your story for it will inspire others and bring glory to God, display love, be mindful of how you live each day, use your time wisely for it is unlikely that you will gain the same chances again, remain faithful, for many are the plans of a man’s heart but the Lord’s purpose must prevail and yes you may be walking the narrow way but the narrow way is wide enough, it’s where you find eternal love, support and guidance from our Lord who will silence our critics and the enemy, who provides our Spiritual weaponry and you know he has gone before us, paved the way for us to discuss his purpose, to spread his word, to bring others to a faith in Jesus and as he freed us we too can act as channels of his word, so I urge you be spurred on to share with others the forgiveness you’ve received from our Father, rather share than keep it hidden for that is a serious omission, we are accountable to our Saviour, responsible for every aspect of our behaviour and omitting to tell others is a failure on a major scale and let’s face it why would you fail to share about Jesus, he was never meant to be a secret so I pray that you won’t weaken, just be a beacon, share his story and share in his Glory.

God’s life changing promises GUARANTEED

Been reading a series on 1 and 2 Peter and have got so much from this, coupled with reading a book by Janet Boynes who was called out of a homosexual lifestyle many years ago and has a really interesting story (with many parallels to mine).  She is quite strong in her belief that homosexuality is a sin that should be turned from and also that the church needs to take a strong stance on this, too many people sitting on the fence or failing to accept God’s word as definitive on this matter.  Having gone through this myself and having experienced many mixed messages from other Christians I too fall in her camp in terms of let’s get it out there, God loves us all immensely but sin gets between us and God and has to be addressed, no matter what the sin is and the Bible is exceptionally clear on homosexuality being a sin.

Anyway here are some of the verses that have inspired me to write this particular entry:

1 Peter 2:21- It was to this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example, so that you would follow in his steps.

1Peter 3:9 – Do not pay back evil with evil or cursing with cursing; instead, pay back with a blessing, because a blessing is what God promised to give you when he called you.

1 Peter 2 9 – But you are the chosen race, the King’s priests, the holy nation, God’s own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his own marvelous light.

2 Peter 1:3 – God’s divine power has given us everything we need to live a truly religious life through our knowledge of the one who called us to share in his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:4 – in this way he has given us the very great and precious gifts he promised, so that by means of these gifts you may escape from the destructive lust that is in the world, and may come to share the divine nature.

2 Chronicles 7:14- if they pray to me and repent and turn away from the evil they have been doing, then I will hear them in heaven, forgive their sins

Before I called out to God, you know he called out to me, he called for me to be free from the lifestyle I was living, he called out to let me know that he was free to talk, free to discuss the way forward, to share the plans he had for me which revolved around my being free, God’s life changing promises GUARANTEED, a promise that affected me, that changed the way that I would see, the way I lived, the things I did, although I’d hidden from God for so many years, the truth was there were so many fears that consumed me, so many tears that fell, and I was in a living Hell, I was going with the flow but you know what when you go with the flow, the flow can take you where you don’t want to go, and it didn’t matter what I thought, because it didn’t match up to God’s word, it was wrong, truth or lies, lies or truth, when you base faith on your own feelings, ideas and what you think then quite frankly, it stinks, trust in God’s unfailing word, trust in the love of your Lord who called you by name, God called you, suffered for you and left you an example so that you would follow in his steps and he lets us know how we can change, rearrange our lives so that when we pray to God, really pray and say sorry for the evil we have done, God hears our voice, accepts our choice to turn our life around and our sins are gone, how neat, how cool, our sins are gone, for so long I was chained and bound but once God turned my life around the promised blessings started to flow and now I know the direction of the flow, the blessings that overflow into my space, I am now part of a chosen race, a holy nation, God’s own people, and I have been chosen to proclaim God’s might, he called out and pulled me from darkness to light, he has given me such great and precious gifts, and I have been lifted out of the destructive desires of the world in order to share what I have learned, obedience creates the freedom I desire, there is a fire within my heart, people of God do not be led astray for here is what I’m called to say, beware of ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing, they have nothing to offer but sugar coated messages and God’s message is so clear, steer clear of sin, of immoral behaviour, don’t allow others to taint the message of the Bible, God died to save me from my sinful lifestyle, that doesn’t mean you can go freestyle, picking out the messages that tickle your ears ignoring the rest for fear that you may really need to pick up your cross, you may have to make some modification in relation to how you interpret the Bible, don’t be in denial that God’s divine power gives us everything we need to live a truly righteous life through our knowledge of the one who called us to share in his own glory and goodness, if you want the richness of life eternal however painful it may be I urge you to seek to know God’s word, do not be swayed by false teachers and preachers, reach out to God who is happy to teach us, reach out to God who is waiting to speak to us, forgive us, bless us and love us, reach out to God who tells it straight, reach out to God before it’s too late.
