My name engraved right where he can see it

Some Bible verses have the capacity to make me grin from ear to ear.  I opened up Pinterest today and my first recommended pin was this verse:

Psalm 91:4 – He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armour and protection.

Talk about making me smile.  I’d just been going over my testimony and one of the things I had been thinking about was how faithful God has been to me, through the roller coaster of my walk with him.  He has always been my rock and my shelter and true to his promise never to leave me or forsake me.

Talk about faithful, my God is on the level, never changing, never faltering, forever at work altering my world to make it better, he covers me with his feathers, he weathers the storm for me, shelters me when I need to just be, and as I am still, knowing that he is God he protects me, my armour, my shield, he never yields or breaks his promises, he takes me just as I am, his love never changes it couldn’t get any bigger and it certainly will never fail, he took those nails in his hands for me, my name engraved right where he can see it next to the scars, he’s never far from me yet he’s banished my sins as far as east is from west, and the best thing, he continues to lead me, guiding me in his plans for me, a lamp to my path and a light to my feet, he meets me just where I am, he loves me just as I am, when I met Jesus my life began.

The whole earth is his, yet he treasures me

Was given a word earlier in the week:

1 John 2:27 – As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit–just as it has taught you, remain in him

I have been looking at this and it has led me to some other verses, in particular:

  • John 15:7 -If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you
  • Exodus 19:5 – Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine..

Exploring these verses has led me to appreciate more the importance of allowing God to lead, guide and counsel me, to understand the importance of living in his word, reading it daily, praying it over situations and understanding all that he says so that I can obey him.  It also makes my heart skip a beat that I am a treasured possession of God even though the whole earth belongs to him, wow.

Chosen, wanted, appointed, anointed by God to do his work, needing no other teacher as he reaches into my heart, sets me apart, living in me and I in him, I remain in him and allow his words to live in me, God put me here for a reason and this is my season to spend much needed time on my knees living the dream, spending time with my Father, abiding in his love, giver of life, his anointing teaches me all things and I remain in fellowship with him, claim the love that never ends, the joy that makes me full, a friendship that’s endless, my dependence only on my God who loves me, I am no longer of this world, I remember God’s word, “obey him fully and you will be treasured”, above all his possessions, the whole earth is his, yet he treasures me, where now Satan your victory?

Are you less valuable to God than a sparrow or crow?

Wanted to illustrate today how amazing God is and I have quickly referenced 10 verses that have spoken to me in the past and these are just ten reasons for me to be cheerful, ten reasons for me to be thankful and the great news is I could reference a thousand more quite easily just through going through my Bible.  So despite feeling low, you only have to go to the Bible and God offers you an immediate pick-me-up.

Luke 19:10 – For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost

Hebrews 13:5 – God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you”

Isaiah 41:10 – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 40:31 – but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Matthew 6:26 –  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God

1 Chronicles 16:34 – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever

Romans 8:39 – neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord

John 16:33 – I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world

Romans 8:18 –  I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us

Jesus came for you, he came to seek out those who needed him most, those who are lost and lonely, only he can see what you really need, he sees into your heart and he will never leave you, he will never let you down, I know it’s easy to think that he will be like all the others but he has promised that he is with you, promises to take all your fear and anxiety and run with it, take it so far away from you that you will be strengthened, you will feel strong through his power, you will tower up over the enemy, soar on wings like eagles, soar high in the heavens above the storms that surround you, do not fear, he is with you and just think of how he cares for the birds of the air, he provides for their every need, he feeds them and are you less valuable to God than a sparrow or crow? You know God values you more highly and provides for you daily, and through prayer and petition and with true thanksgiving and praise ask God for what you need, ask God and he sees to it, he provides, so give thanks to the Lord who is good, give praise to God whose love lasts all the days of your life, praise God that nothing but nothing can separate you from him, there is nothing too high, too deep or too wide for God’s love to permeate through and soak you to your very core, his love healing your raw emotions, his devotion to you spoken in his word, he has told us all this so we might have peace, despite the troubles of the world, despite the commotions around us that cause our emotions to play with our minds, God is with us, Emmanuel, Jesus has overcome the world and so what that we feel some pain now, so what that we suffer at times when you think that our lives are just a fleeting second in time and nothing here is worth comparing with the Glory that will be revealed in us when we stand before the throne of Grace, when we finally see his glorious face.

God loves me, not just because the Bible tells me so

So last night was being prayed for over a situation and got the feeling of being like a baby being held in God’s arms, totally safe and protected, and I know God has constantly promised to protect me and shield me so this was yet again God telling me how much he loves me and oh how amazing to know that God holds us so close when we need him to be there.

John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends

God loves me, not just because the Bible tells me so, oh no, God loves me because he tells me so, again and again he shows that love, repeatedly he holds me close, holds me tight and he is the light of my world, the light in my darkness, and he commands us to love one another as he has loved us, and I am not sure if I have that much love in my soul, for God’s love for me astounds me constantly, if I could grasp just a fraction of that love and share it around then the world would be a better place, for God has invaded my space with shedloads of love and I wanna thank him with all of my heart that I will never be apart from him again, never need to strain for his attention, I have his protection, guaranteed, I have his love unquestionably, he loves me always and forever, from here to eternity, oh how he loves us, oh how he cares, so I will not fear, I will not be dismayed, I will not be terrified or afraid, cos God loves me and you know what that means, he is patient, he’s kind, he’s got you on his mind, and as I reach out with my heart I humbly offer it to God, it’s not much but it’s all I’ve got and it may not be a lot but (and I don’t take this for granted) it’s all God ever wanted, for me to open up my heart, to take his offer of a brand new start, to receive from him the gift of life, God is my light, he is right there when I feel alone, he knows my struggles and my cares, and he is there, endlessly there, his love is everlasting beyond our understanding, and I am so happy that I am standing up for Jesus, receiving all the love he has, and God I cannot thank you enough apart from giving you all my love, praise, worship and adoration, thank you Lord of my salvation.

Now GO, I will help you speak and will teach you what to say

Struck me today God wants us to share his word and too often we don’t for fear of looking silly, not knowing what to say, being judged, but why wouldn’t we want to tell everyone we meet about the saving power and love of Jesus?

Was looking at Exodus 4:12 – Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

So God has already promised that he will help us speak and teach us what to say, awesome, so through reading the Bible every day and praying to God I really feel like he is teaching me and I am much better equipped to speak although SO much more to learn (love it God’s word is so full of great and relevant messages)

Now GO, I will help you speak and will teach you what to say, don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything, tell God what you need, he is great indeed and don’t be ashamed of your story for it will inspire others and bring glory to God, display love, be mindful of how you live each day, use your time wisely for it is unlikely that you will gain the same chances again, remain faithful, for many are the plans of a man’s heart but the Lord’s purpose must prevail and yes you may be walking the narrow way but the narrow way is wide enough, it’s where you find eternal love, support and guidance from our Lord who will silence our critics and the enemy, who provides our Spiritual weaponry and you know he has gone before us, paved the way for us to discuss his purpose, to spread his word, to bring others to a faith in Jesus and as he freed us we too can act as channels of his word, so I urge you be spurred on to share with others the forgiveness you’ve received from our Father, rather share than keep it hidden for that is a serious omission, we are accountable to our Saviour, responsible for every aspect of our behaviour and omitting to tell others is a failure on a major scale and let’s face it why would you fail to share about Jesus, he was never meant to be a secret so I pray that you won’t weaken, just be a beacon, share his story and share in his Glory.

Every word of God is flawless

Been thinking more about God calling me out from the gay lifestyle and how I can maybe reach others with his message of love and hope.  At first I thought maybe the message he had for me to give was for other gay people but I feel that he wants to talk to his children, his church and for us to search for answers in his word, to use the Bible as the basis for truth and to teach that lovingly and openly, to be strong advocates for God’s biblical teachings so that we can shine as a light in every community and bring others to salvation through our words, our witness and our honesty.

I know there is a big divide among the church community and also the Gay community on what the Bible says about homosexuality.  I hear the arguments particularly those who say that only the Old Testament refers to homosexuality as a sin and it is taken out of context (e.g. refers to exploitation, child sex abuse etc.)  However, what about what the New Testament says?  How can you take these scriptures out of context, specifically Romans and Corinthians which to me are abundantly clear?

  • Romans 1:26–27 – Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:9–10 – Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
  • 1 Timothy 1:9-10 – We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practising homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers – and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine
  • Jude 1:7 – In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

I believe strongly also in Timothy’s message (2 Timothy 4: 3-4)

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather round them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

What is amazing is that God will forgive us all our sins when we recognise that we are sinners, as Christians we are called to hold others to account and to lovingly support and guide each other so don’t just tell people what they want to hear, don’t try and be politically correct, don’t allow people to falter or stumble but through truth and love help them to come to know God fully and recognise his calling on their life

Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

OK so when you read the Bible are you one of those who’s liable to skip parts that maybe don’t sit quite right?  Maybe it frightens you a bit to admit that some of the things you thought were OK (like being gay?) maybe are not.  Perhaps you’ve never stopped to think what impact your interpretation may have on your relationship with other believers. Does it scare you that the Prince of deceivers may muddle your mind so you find that your ears switch off to the truth and you seek to soothe others with comforting words that hurtle them towards a life without Jesus?  Cos here’s the thing Jesus died to free us and in order to free us we must have faith and in our faith we must allow God to take centre place, and every word of God is flawless, we can’t live in a lawless society, we must take responsibility, follow God’s teachings, ensure our preaching is sound, grounded in his word, if we are to minister to those who are struggling, those who are reaching for redemption, we need to strengthen our knowledge of the Bible, stop skipping the bits that we think are not viable in this modern era where we seem not to fear the Lord as we should, study and pray so that we may understand God’s meaning and leaning not on our own understanding be upstanding in our conviction that God’s word is definitive, clear cut, no ifs, no buts, don’t shut your mind, ensure you’re well primed to use God’s word to support and affirm, to declare and proclaim the power of Jesus name and to bring to faith those who live in shame, let’s not be to blame for letting them fail, don’t be responsible for that first nail in their coffin, lovingly show them that Jesus seeks them to believe in him, repent of their sin cos in my experience there is nothing more confusing than Christians musing over the rights or wrongs of my calling, causing me to question my understanding and that is so demanding for a new Christian, it was hard when people didn’t listen, praise God he gave me a strong conviction to follow his path to salvation, so have compassion, love and understanding and above all be demanding of yourself, don’t sit on the fence for fear of causing offence.

How perfect is the Bible as a representation of your word?

It’s taken me a while to see how often God uses the same verses or stories in different parts of the Bible, or how the New Testament often refers to words from the Old Testament.  Today I was reading Matthew 12:20 which referred to a verse in Isaiah that I had read lately.

A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory

I have been thinking about this  and am just in awe of how much God talks to us through his word, how he can emphasise a word to us so simply and how the Bible was written two thousand years ago yet it may have been written yesterday as it is so relevant to my life.

Hey God, well firstly how perfect is the Bible as a representation of your word, like not only do you tell us once, or only in one way but every day I’m reading things I’ve read before, but like I swear I haven’t read that verse before and that gives me a sense of wonder and awe when words are chosen just for me and then I see that you talk to me in so many different ways, who says that you’re not real? You’re so real, you talk to me more than my friend who lives just down the street, you raise me up, you give me hope, you feed my need for knowledge and when I am weak you have something to say to give me hope, brighten my day, and when I’m down you don’t mess around you uplift my spirit and my soul, you give me a sense of wholeness once more and I adore that you wrote your words centuries before I was born yet you may as well have been in the next room, understood my mood and sensed my need, your words acknowledge that as a human I am frail and now and then I’m going to fail, but that’s OK cos I am trying and I know that you paid the ultimate price for me, dying so that I could be free and you allow me to be me, you gave me free will so I could choose the path I want to follow, freedom to choose to believe your word, to turn to you and ask forgiveness and when you get down to business there is only one choice to be made, you displayed the ultimate love for me and I would be foolish if I failed to see that your word clearly spells it out, there is no room for doubt, God sent his son to save me, sent his Spirit to guide me and you have never lied to me, you told me clearly that the path to salvation was narrow and hard, that it would not be an easy ride but your everlasting arms are there to carry me, when I am weak you are strong, you’ve told us all along that your power is made perfect in our weakness, you came to seek us when we were lost, hurting, forgotten and rejected, to stop us from becoming dejected, remind us that in you we will be perfected, so I thank you that you connected with me, selected me to walk with you, welcome me when I talk to you and love me like no one else could do, I praise you for your ceaseless love, I thank you for choosing someone like me to live with you in eternity.
