Your lies no longer suck me in

I was having a chat with God last night, he knows what it was about.  Suffice to say he showed me quite clearly that even in our darkest moments he was and is with us.  I was reminded of two passages of scripture:

Psalm 139: 11-12 – If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you

Isaiah 9: 2-3 – The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.  You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.

I was also listening to the song King of my Heart – where we worship God singing, “you’re never going to let me down”.  Amen to that, God is good.  The song finishes with the line:

When the night is holding on to me, God is holding on.

GOD’S GRACE

You are good Lord, you are good, you’re not the one who let me down, you’re not the one who let me drown in the darkness, you’re not the one who sent me into temporary madness, Satan’s only weapon against me is his lies, if he can tie me up, drag me through the dust, fill my head with darkened memories, then he has won the victory, he delights in taunting me, where was God in the darkness, where was God when I marked you out, I answer with confidence, God is good, God is the one who made me whole, the one who made me sane, God pulled me up again and again, there is no hiding place for your lies and deceit, in the darkness of the night God’s light protects me, as the darkness tried to consume me, God was holding on to me, when I was walking in the darkness he showed me a great light, I saw the light dawning, drawing me in, he showed me that my sin could be forgiven, the darkness no longer dark to me, God has enlarged the place of my tent, God has defeated you my enemy, he has increased my joy, my cup overflows, and I know the thoughts he has for me, thoughts to prosper and not to harm me, when you thought you had me, God was holding on to me, no matter how hard you try to prise me from his arms, he’ll allow no harm to come to me, his the victory, his the win, your lies no longer suck me in, I trample on your head, to me that life is dead, a new creation raised up with Jesus in heavenly places, running the race because of God’s grace.
