I’m no longer concerned about public opinion

Jesus calls each of us by name.  If you are reading this as a Christian there will have been a moment in time when Jesus called your name, and you responded.  It came to me today that Mary Magdalene was the first person called by the risen Lord.  The first of us who believed in our “risen” Saviour.

  • John 20:16 – Then Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him, “Rabboni.” The Aramaic word “Rabboni” means “Teacher.”

She is the model we should all follow, what did she do when Jesus called her name.  She went and told others that she had seen Jesus.  This is exactly what Jesus calls us to do.

  • Matthew 28:19 – Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

CALLED

He has called me by name and I am his, he has called me, my name was on his lips, my name that was engraved on his hands spoken out loud, picked out, selected, not just one of the crowd, chosen by Jesus to be victorious, elected to receive his glorious grace, a place reserved for me in his heavenly Kingdom, I’m no longer concerned about public opinion, cos he who counts the stars and knows them by name is the same God who has redeemed me and called me by name, he sees me as worthy to no longer go thirsty, his rivers of living water flow through me, he calls me to share, to dare to be bold, to speak life into those who are weary or out in the cold, he calls me to go out, make disciples of the nations, his desire that all will receive his salvation.

Lifted out of his wilderness into God’s mighty inheritance.

So I suppose one of my unanswered questions has been, if you are a Christian and then stray or backslide, are you still saved?  The reason I ask this is personal, my Dad has been apart from God for some 35 years or more and I have been praying for him to draw back to God.

However, great news on a personal front, yesterday my Dad confirmed he was back on track with God.  Long story short, he has been diagnosed with bone cancer and this is his second cancer scare.  I think this time he had reached rock bottom and has cried out to God.  He told me that he was putting his hand into God’s hand and trusting him.  This kind of resonated with a verse a friend had given me earlier in the day which she felt God had given her for my Dad and that is Isaiah 49:16, God has never forgotten my Dad, how could he, his name is permanently etched on God’s hand.

Praising God today 🙂

Isaiah 49: 15-16 Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.

Deuteronomy 9:26 – “I prayed to the LORD and said, ‘O Lord GOD, do not destroy Your people, even Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

YOUR NAME IS PRECIOUS

A name engraved on a palm, a name engraved on a Father’s heart, a mutual love, a mutual respect, yet something cracked, the emphasis of your life shifted, you no longer lifted your eyes to the Lord to gaze on his face, but in his Grace he looked at your name engraved on his hand, he made no demands of you, he had a constant reminder of what you had been and what you could be, your name exactly where he ordained it to be, my plea, do not let him go, let him know intimacy with you once again, let him look past the stains of a life of regret and let him feel your love, my Father in heaven heard me, went over and above, he reached out his hand, the hand of freedom and showed him the way to his heavenly Kingdom, as his hand reached out and took his pain and fear, God showed him he’d always been near, redeemed through God’s greatness, lifted out of his wilderness into God’s mighty inheritance.

God will give me a name that I can claim as my own

I was looking through some of my favourite verses and one which is really special for me is:

  • Isaiah 49:16 – See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.

I read this quite early on in my walk with God and it’s an amazing thing to feel so loved by our God.  I suppose when you think about it the palm of the hand must be a very painful place to have a tattoo due to the sensitive skin there, but God would go through any pain for us.  It also means he can see our names at any time by just looking down at his hands, we are constantly in his thoughts and on his heart.  I suspect that the name is just a window to the countless thoughts he holds for us.

When thinking about this today I discovered these two verses which are new to me and was blown away, I’m going to have a “God given name” something that is just between me and God…WOW.

  • Revelation 22:4 – They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
  • Revelation 2:17 – Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.

TATTOO

A tattoo, a constant reminder, an indelible mark of my name, claimed by God, branded on his palm, an emotional attachment symbolic of an intimate relationship, a deep lasting covenant of love characteristic of God’s deep thoughts towards me, a window into how he sees me, not just a name nor a symbol but a reflection of the myriad thoughts he has of me, how he sees me as a completed saint, righteous and free, fulfilling my destiny as a child of the King and this thought fills me with praise, when I finally see his face his name will be engraved on my forehead denoting that I am free through the blood of Jesus shed for me and get this a new name will be given to me and only I will know it, intimate and personal, God will give me a name that I can claim as my own, he will call me by name and I can claim that intimacy, unconditional love from a Father who loves me eternally.
