God may not take you where you want to go but you will end up where you need to be

A lady at church was telling me about her calling to become a preacher and how she needed to overcome an obstacle before she could felt she could proceed.  She tried many things to overcome this obstacle but struggled and almost gave up.  Then she felt God telling her why are you trying to do this in your own strength and that was it, she overcame the obstacle and has never looked back.

That really spoke to me, if God has a calling for us he will make the way for us, he will part the waters or move the mountains.  So we shouldn’t say no to God and the opportunities he puts our way just because we feel it’s too hard or not achievable, we need to embrace his call and trust that he will provide.

Matthew 6:25-34 – Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. …

Ezra 10:4 – Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.”

Don’t stay in the boat when God’s calling you out into the water, get up, this is in your hands, the multitudes will support you so take courage and do it, align your heart with God’s, he is so aware of where you are and every step he’s asking you to take, he’s just asking you to walk by faith and not by sight, and there’s light at the end of the tunnel, God is good and all things are possible, step by step let your pile of good things grow, just don’t be afraid of the unknown, step back, release and watch God blow your mind and you’ll find he may not take you where you want to go but you will end up where you need to be, be bold, be courageous, God has a comeback for every setback just glorify him in all that you do, go on step out of the box to change the view.

What good am I if I cannot distinguish Satan’s lies from God’s truth?

I was reading the story of Joseph this morning and it came to mind that it could have been such a different story had he not been “strong and courageous”.  This is a recurring theme for me at the moment probably to do with some of the challenging stuff I am reading and watching, but also I feel probably a natural progression in my walk with Jesus.  If Joseph had not been courageous in speaking out in prison or in interpreting Pharaohs dream or even as a young boy speaking out to his brothers he may never have found himself in the position he did where he was able to carry out God’s will from a position of authority.  I also read the following in Joshua 1:6-9

  • Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

So it’s not just about having strength and courage but also to be obedient which means knowing God’s word, or how else can we be obedient to it, meditating on it, thinking it through and then we will be prosperous and successful.  And I don’t red that prosperous as a financial prosperity but being prosperous in our gifts from God, from receiving his love and blessing in every aspect of our lives.

Be bold, be strong, hold on tight cos it’s going to be a bit of a ride but God never lied, when he said, be strong, be courageous he was talking to us, and in a way that paves the way for us to see that he never said it would be easy, courage a necessity to fight the enemy, boldness required to spread the fire that burns inside of me, but all will be in vain if I fail to know God’s word, if I haven’t heard of all his promises, haven’t understood all that Jesus did, what good am I if I cannot distinguish Satan’s lies from God’s truth, or fail to hear the still small voice of God within because I am not tuned in to all he has to say, see like a sheep I need to know my shepherd’s voice, I have a choice and I choose to run with God, co-labour in his workplace, I choose to seek to see his face and I long to be strong for God, I long to spread the joy that I enjoy, I yearn to speak out loud , to lift black clouds, see people healed, for God’s love and grace in me should never be concealed.

Bold as a Lion I roar at the enemy

Many times in the Bible we are told not to fear and to be courageous.  Courage is not the absence of hurt or fear simply the strength and ability to move past that hurt or fear to reach the other side.  God gives us that strength and ability (I can do all things through him who strengthens me) it could be a case of mind over matter, positive action through asking God to help you overcome whatever it is that you face.  I honestly find that when I try and do it myself I inevitably fail, but when I am intentional about asking God to help me I am more than a conqueror.

  • Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
  • Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
  • 2 Timothy 1:7 – For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
  • 1 Corinthians 16:13 – Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
  • Proverbs 28:1 – The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
  • Psalm 27:14 – Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

More than a conqueror through him who loves me, she who is brave is free, don’t pray for the hard things to be gone pray for the courage to face them head on, be strong, be brave, be fearless, you are never alone, God never puts you in a situation you can’t handle so pray with your eyes on God and not on the problem, let’s face it our God is awesome, wait for him, be strong, let your heart take courage and you will flourish, bold as a Lion I roar at the enemy, you will never ever defeat me for the Lord my God is with me and I am clothed in his Spirit, I am deeply rooted, grounded in my faith and where roots run deep there is no reason to fear the wind, be inspired, God has never required you to do this alone, he’s known you, loved you, sung songs over you, he protects you with his wings, he’s done a million things that you will never see to ensure your peace as you walk the path he chose for you, be aware you’re walking in his shoes, he’s gone before, he followed behind, you’re constantly on your Saviour’s mind, be brave, be strong, be courageous for God himself is with you.

I am alive for God and a thorn in the side of the devil’s flesh

Jesus walked on the water and the disciples were afraid.  Yet I hadn’t realised until today that this was spoken about in the Old Testament, our God is unstoppable, he can do all things including walking on water just proving to us how amazing he is.  Once we are saved we can tap into this power, tap into the miracles that Jesus performed on earth and be mighty in our witness for him.  I so want to praise God for this and for the ability to reject the Devil and all his schemes, to stand tall with my awesome God who can always be trusted to do unexpected and amazing things in unexpected and amazing ways.

  • Job 9:8 – He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea
  • Psalm 77:19 – Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.

My God appears in unexpected places in unexpected ways, my God takes the storm and calms it with one word, nothing impossible for God who loves us, Lord of Creation to you be all praise, I look to you, I take courage, no longer afraid, you lead me in the paths of righteousness, that’s me doing good right, spreading God’s light, I wake up in the morning and the devil turns to see, like he thought he’d killed me off long ago, but not so, my God has revived me, my God reached out and saved me and now I am alive for God and a thorn in the side of the devil’s flesh, I will not rest until I am heard, I will not falter or alter the course that God has chosen for me to follow so Satan now your words are hollow, you cannot lie to me, deceive me, taunt or tempt me, cos you see I have Jesus and I have truth and love, forgiveness from my loving God, I have strength and courage, I am new, rebuilt and refurbished and I will not be discouraged for my God is with me wherever I go, he’s gone before, he falls behind, hems me in, you see I have a God who lives in me, delights in me, my God delights in me, nothing to see here, nothing you can do to change me now cos somehow God still loved me despite my life, my history and God reached out to me, check that out, he reached out to me, see I am unique, I am chosen, you Satan are frozen out of my life, that’s what God’s ultimate sacrifice bought for me, freedom from your chains of slavery, look at me, loved, redeemed, full of joy, totally and emphatically free.

The lioness arises within me to claim with courage all you want me to be.

Stepping out for God means being brave, even if it’s just putting yourself a little out of your comfort zone, so like if God gives you a word for someone and you are not sure what it means, he still wants you to give it to them.  Today as I was praying I had a verse for someone but didn’t feel “brave” enough to give it initially, however I did pray about that and did send the verse to them.  That is a small example but I believe as I go forward with God I am going to need to believe him when he says be courageous and even if I am not sure what he has in store for me he’s my loving Father and I know it will be for good. Today I was thinking about Deuteronomy 31:6 and then my daily reading was from Joshua 1.  Two very similar messages in Joshua 1:9 and Deuteronomy but what also stood out for me was Joshua 1:11.  Take possession of what God is giving me, own it, be proud of it and work hard to look after it.

Joshua 1:9 – “Here is what I am commanding you to do. Be strong and brave. Do not be terrified. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.’

Joshua 1:11 – take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.’

God, it’s kind of strange talking about taking possession of the land you are giving me, but I started to think about what that means and it seems you are giving me the green light, for me to believe that it is the right time to take possession of all that you meant me to have when I was conceived, all that you decreed should be my destiny cos living my own way failed, but you never fail, never give up on us and when I saw that there were no other choices, that the void could not be filled with anything other than an infilling of your Holy Spirit, I got it, you give me a fresh vision for my future, a new outlook filled with promises found in your Book, you fill me with hope, a hope in things not yet seen, a hope that fuels my courage for courage is like love and needs to be nourished, you command me be strong and brave, you save me from terror and you never leave or abandon me, hope fuels my courage and encourages me to face each spiritual battle anew with your love flowing through me, your Holy Spirit guiding me, your word a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, let me bask in your glory as you fashion my story, I am ready Lord to move forward with strength and courage to carry your message to all the nations, to boast of the Salvation you provide through your compassion and love, above all things Lord let me step out in faith, understanding that you make all things possible for you are able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine so I imagine big, I imagine great things happening, a great flurry of activity, you mobilising me for action, you expanding my horizons the lioness rising within me to claim with courage all you want me to be.

Servanthood, you are mine

All the gifts God has given us are to be used for his glory, even those we may think are not that important, havebeen reflecting on servanthood this morning

1 Peter 4:10 – Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms

1 Timothy 4:4 – For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

I have called you by name, you are mine so don’t live an ordinary life you serve an extraordinary God, adventures await, don’t be lazy, work hard, serve your God enthusiastically, live large, be bold, demonstrate unprecedented obedience throughout your life’s duration, be urgent to reach your generation for we have a job to reach the nations including our friends and relations and if I were to offer my interpretation of what God’s doing for me, he called me, is equipping and preparing me, encouraging me to serve him daily and God wants me to be brave enough to live creatively using the talents and gifts that he gave me, I am blessed, favoured and I serve a God who will never give up on me, I worship a God who cannot be exaggerated for he is the greatest, celebrated King of King and Lord of all nations and one day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess him King of Glory, now how can you fail to believe in his love for you, how can you neglect the gifts he’s given you, may he give you a servant’s heart so you can serve like Jesus aligning your plans with God’s purpose, always believe in God, seek his guidance, let’s face it there are some questions even Google can’t answer so ask God what he wants you to do, recognise the gifts he’s given to you, hold your nerve and remember he is a Mighty God that we serve, be ready and willing to do his bidding, adjust your attitude to one of servanthood, desire to do all that is good to spread God’s word and be spurred on to serve in all situations, be bold, step forward and meet God’s expectations.

Courage to dump my baggage at your door

So it’s good to know that we are surrounded by Christians who love us, care for us and never judge us, told a friend I was struggling today and got a load of verses sent to me, here’s one that I must listen to more when I am in that place

Psalm 105:4   Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

OK Lord I am looking, looking to you for my strength, looking to you for energy and courage, courage to dump my baggage at your door, having determination and grit to say Lord this is it, this is the thing that I can’t let go of, this is the final piece of the jigsaw, take it away, you exchanged all my sins for eternal life when you died on that Cross, you gave me life help me now to recognise that your death symbolises freedom, my sins are beaten, defeated and I should not need to repeatedly fail when life gets stormy, here take my worry, take my sinful actions let my reactions be holy and pure, may my first thoughts be of your secure and loving arms before I allow myself to harm.
