Let it be as the angels proclaimed, give glory to God in the highest

I am intrigued by the relationship Moses had with God.  It was certainly very different from what I would expect, the dialogue that of friends and the way Moses challenged God clearly comes from a place of great respect, yet great familiarity.  And Moses was loyal to his people as well as to God, he fought for them and petitioned for them with God despite their constant failings.  What a great leader he was and an inspiration to us all in our personal relationships with God.

But today I want to talk about God’s Glory.  Moses boldly asked God to see his glory and God responded…

Exodus 33:18-19 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”  And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

God’s response was not one of incredulity that Moses would even asked, not a response of yes look at how powerful I am, look at how great I am but a response of, sure, I want to show you my goodness, I am merciful and compassionate.  What a loving God we have and one who delights in showing us just how much he loves us and showing us his goodness each and every day.

THE GLORY OF GOD

The glory of God, can you believe I once was blind but now I see, as the heavens declare his glory, creation reveals his splendour and majesty, at last I see, let it be as the angels proclaimed, give glory to God in the highest and on earth be his peace, it’s only when we believe that we truly see, the earth is filled with the glory of God, a heavy presence of all that is good, a radiant world precious with God’s majestic richness, he is the glory in our midst and this my desire, that I may uniquely reflect his goodness, that I may mirror his glory throughout all my life.
