I woke up in the middle of the night, checked my clock and there were the numbers 3:16. I couldn’t help but smile as I recalled the verse in John 3:16, thanking God for loving me so much that he sent Jesus to die for me, resolving to Blog on this verse in the morning I fell back into a peaceful sleep, safe and secure in the knowledge that I have salvation because of God’s love for me.
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
It says it clearly in John 3:16, but for those who may be struggling with this concept let me spell this out, God so loved the world, the world he created for us, he so loved all of us regardless of our messing it up, regardless of our apathy and he sent his son to die on the cross, to carry our sins, not his, for he was flawless, but he carried our sins as he hung on the cross, think about that, all your sins multiplied by the billions who’ve gone before, all of our sins the big and the small, he carried them, back breaking, arduous, punishing, those sins that weighed him down, the crown of thorns eating into his brow, how did he manage to see it through if it wasn’t for his love for you? And God knew what he was doing when he asked Jesus to be the ultimate sacrifice, don’t for one minute think that this was taken lightly or that it was easy, Jesus son of Man had to suffer agony to secure the victory, God had to watch his only son humiliated, beaten and put to death and as he shouted with his final breath, it is finished, he wasn’t talking about his life, he was talking about Satan’s hold over us, he was claiming victory over sin and shame and from that day forward the world was never the same, for God so loved the world he held out his hand, drew a line in the sand and if you want to step over that line and align yourself on the side of Jesus it’s as simple as trusting him with your life, asking him to forgive your sin and trusting him with everything from now until eternity when you will spend your life in perpetuity in the presence of the Holy Trinity.
