God says do it his way

Proverbs 2:1-5 – My child, you must follow and treasure my teachings and my instructions. Keep in tune with wisdom and think what it means to have common sense. Beg as loud as you can for good common sense. Search for wisdom as you would search for silver or hidden treasure. Then you will understand what it means to respect and to know the LORD God.

Proverbs 14:12 and Proverbs 16:25- There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death

Matthew 7:13-14 – Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Surely finding our way through the narrow gate requires work.  When you read Proverbs 14:12 and Proverbs 16:25 (identical verses) it kind of hints that some of us may be following a way that we feel is right, but ultimately it is not.  In Proverbs 2 we are encouraged to follow and treasure God’s teachings and his instruction.  We are told that we need to seek this with all our heart, beg for common sense and understanding, to search as we would for hidden treasure.  This walk isn’t about complacency or taking things at face value. This walk is about seeking God with every part of our being, of reading his word, of prayer, of listening to God and of hiding his word in our hearts in order that we can constantly refer to it, be obedient to it and draw strength from it as we navigate the narrow and difficult path that leads to heaven.  All too often in the world today people are looking for the loop holes, the get out of jail free card, there is no such thing as free grace, we have to give something back to our relationship with God, not just take, take, take.

WHICH WAY?

The narrow path or the wide-open highway?  Here’s a reminder, God says do it his way, the paths may look as if they head in the same direction, correction, only one path leads to salvation and that’s the path less walked, the path that’s often talked about but then doubts kick in, does Jesus really consider that sin, does the Bible say anything about that subject, no, oh phew I’ll carry on rejecting that teaching because we are no longer under the law, but what’s God’s word for?  The double edged sword that cuts to the quick, be aware of the tricks of the enemy, deceitful lies that satisfy, let God be the light to your path, the lamp to your feet, keep to his ways, in all your ways acknowledge him, beg him for wisdom, seek out the truth as you would buried treasure, take pleasure in respecting God’s word as you learn from him, as his truth burns in your soul, as you follow him in obedience he will make you whole.
