My God is no scarecrow, no straw filled dummy without a brain

What I love about reading the Bible in 90 days is that I am reading stuff I never knew existed and understanding how the Word all fits together in a perfect way.

One such verse jumped out at me today in Jeremiah, relating to idols or foreign Gods.  I just love the reference to a scarecrow in a cucumber field!  But that started to get me thinking, you know other people have Gods or idols that are exactly that; Scarecrows.  Like in the classic Wizard of Oz scarecrows have no brains, they cannot think, talk or move, let alone move mountains, but our God is no scarecrow!  Our God is real, alive, he alone is able to change our lives and he alone can give us salvation.

  • Jeremiah 10:5 – Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.”

SCARECROW

My God is no scarecrow, no straw filled dummy without a brain, my God is real, alive and he’s on our side, my God loves us fiercely, his heart for us is immense, his presence surrounds us, he walks with us, he talks to us and through us, he calms the wind, he commands the waves, he has already saved us from our sins if we would just claim that for ourselves, my God doesn’t collect dust sitting on a shelf, he is no idle idol, check out your Bible for the proof, God is no spoof, no man made image, God is not timid, he is a God of power, our tower of strength, our God is all that is right and excellent, we are recipients of his amazing grace, a testament of his love, a love that never fails, my God took the nails in his hand and his feet as he was nailed to a tree to set us free, the action of a living God, a loving God, a caring God who lives and breathes, don’t be deceived by false Gods, man-made idols, rivals to the real thing, bring your offerings to the one and only King of Kings, Jesus who died for us, what a love, what a sacrifice, come to him now and lay down your life.
