Being a Christian isn’t just about church

So was thinking about humility today and remembered reading that the more quality intimate time we spend with God the more we see his might and majesty and are then humbled in his sight.  We were talking in church this morning about spending quality time with God, even comparing it to an athlete training.  It takes time and effort to be a good athlete and likewise we can’t expect to have a strong relationship and walk with God if we spend little or no time with him on a regular basis.  This quality time helps us to become more humble.  So what does that mean for me?  I kind of feel it means me being able to admit my weaknesses, stop trying to impress others, to ask for help when needed, to be forgiving and to serve God freely and with all my heart.

1 Peter 5: 1-10 – Humble yourselves therefore under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Too busy for God?  Really?  No one is too busy for the things that they love, putting God first makes a difference so don’t be indifferent to the importance of making time for the Lord who adores it when we come to him in prayer, so don’t let me hear you say you’re too busy to get out your Bible it’s just what you need for revival, to revitalise your spiritual life so don’t find time, make time and watch as the pressures that kept you away in the first place melt away as Jesus takes the slack and gives you back the peace that can only be found when we put in the ground work, being a Christian isn’t just about church, if you want to become more like Jesus you’ve got to put in the graft, cast aside the demands of your life, be prepared to sacrifice and your life will be better, humble yourself under God’s mighty hand and he will lift you up in due time.
