Another terrorist atrocity, another day of mourning and prayer for those affected by the tragic aftermath of terror. I was praying today and was reminded of Matthew 5:44 – But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
What a difficult thing to do don’t you agree? It is so hard to think of praying for terrorists, for people who seek to kill, maim, destroy and put fear into our lives, but that’s exactly what Jesus calls us to do.
So today I reflected on what a difference we could make if more of us prayed for the terrorists, prayed for God’s love to fill them, prayed for revelation of God’s love, prayed for “Damascus” moments to turn their lives around, prayed for courage for them to turn away from terror activities, prayed for safe keeping if they seek to escape from the life they are living. That is true love, to want them to be saved, to want them to feel what we feel, the love of a heavenly Father who forgave us for our sins and is waiting to forgive them of theirs, they just have to recognise that he is their God and he loves them as much as he loves us and will do anything to set them free.
Isaiah 53:6 – We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
LOVE YOUR ENEMIES
What good is love if you only give to those who give back, doesn’t that lack meaning, I love you if you love me, easy, but what about those who don’t know love, who are void of love and affection, whose goal is the infliction of pain and suffering, death and destruction, God still loves them. We all like sheep have strayed from the path God had for us, at times we have all turned our backs followed our own tracks, but God stacked all of those sins on his son, everything bad or wrong that we have done and they were gone at the cross, lost because he paid the cost, God loves the good, the bad and the ugly and that includes me praise be to God so even when we find it hard lets obey his commands and pray for our enemies, pray for victory in their lives, pray for them to find the love of God, let’s not be selfish with God’s gift of eternal life, his sacrifice was for all, so let’s call on God to change their hearts, to show them what they are missing, to give them courage to start confessing their sins and to make changes, may God help them rearrange their lives, escape the life they’ve found themselves in and start again may God reign supreme in their hearts, God this we pray, God this we ask.
