Time to tighten my laces

I was in a seminar today about “Stepping Up” really it was looking at our calling, so understanding what a calling was and how we can step up to the plate and fulfil our obedience to God’s calling.  I asked for prayer about my calling after the seminar and the lady who prayed for me got a picture of training shoes, telling me she saw that I was in the right shoes but God just need me to tighten the laces.  Now that made a lot of sense, I have learnt so much since becoming a Christian but on reflection you know if your laces are loose and come undone you can fall flat on your face, or it can slow you down as your shoe gets loose.  I also felt that with loose shoes I would struggle to complete the race or for certain would not be in a position to “run in such a way as to get the prize.”  So I felt quite good that I am on the right path (in the right shoes) but that I just need to fix my eyes on Jesus and continue to immerse myself in him in order to ready myself, so a bit more “tightening up” to be done, to get my feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.  Praise God for how he works and how much he loves us.

  • Hebrews 12: 1-2 -Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,  fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
  • Ephesians 6:15 – and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace
  • Acts 20:24 – However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:24 – Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

TIGHTEN YOUR LACES

Preparation, that’s the key, preparing me for every eventuality, ready, set, go… follow God’s plan so I can say I ran the race in such a way as to get the prize, I fix my eyes on Jesus, I know I must be in the right place before I can start the race and testify to God’s great grace, now’s the time to tighten my laces, in preparation for the long and winding road ahead, not a sprint but a marathon and as I prepare my God looks on, counsellor and teacher, he speaks into my heart, imparts peace and love, keeps his promises, which are good, pleasing, perfect, and my wait is worth it to get into the right place to connect with God and run his race, put Jesus first, never be discouraged, thirst for his path, be nourished by his words and in time you will do his great works
